ABSTRACT People?s Republic of China is a country ruled by both president and prime minister who were elected from the only party in China, Chinese Communist Party ( CCP ) . The interesting fact behind China?s government is every leader who ruled China always has their own slogan. President Xi Jinping who was elected as president since 2012, issued ? Chinese Dream? as a slogan for his regime?s direction and goals. This slogan has been associated with another well-known slogan from United States which known as ?The American Dream?. The main reason is because both slogans contain the word ?dream?, but since People?s Republic of China and The United States are two completely different countries, it was nearly imposible to indentify any similiarity between this two slogans. Thus, in this journal, the author will go through literature sources such as newspaper articles, books and other sources to prove the differences between these two slogans;People?s Republic of China is a country ruled by both president and prime minister who were elected from the only party in China, Chinese Communist Party ( CCP ) .

ABSTRACT
Ever since its first coinage by James Truslow Adams in 1931, The American Dream has been long held as the everyman s life, which promises success through hard work and stresses the preservation of collective ideals to all Americans regardless of each individual s differences. The Dream s endurance is further strengthened by its frequent presence in American popular culture. However, the life and times of the Americans have greatly changed since the Dream s inception, and this raises the question of today s state of the Dream. Examining The Devil Wears Prada (2006) and its main character Andrea Sachs, this research investigates whether the film s depiction of the American Dream is in accordance to Adams s original concept. By dissecting the Dream s basic concepts and observing its manifestations in the film, this research argues that the film provides a radically metamorphosed version of the American Dream, in which it is now a mere justification for selfish endeavours and has become a tool of oppression to those who seek it."

This thesis sees how “American dream” of the white character Max Black and Caroline Channing, which is the main idea of the sitcom 2 Broke Girls (2011), becomes the trigger for the participation of ethnic minority characters in realizing the dream. Using the “American dream” concept, this thesis aims to seeunderlying racism in this sitcom. Analysis on selected episodes was done to examine the participation, characteristics, and relationship between the ethnic minority and the WASP characters, which show inequality and racial stereotyping. The textual analysis is contextualized through the discernment of the prevalence of stereotyping and racism in American society, especially in television and sitcoms.
