Abstrak :
This volume fills a void in the literature by examining the social policy contributions of a wide range of psychologists. These psychologists work from various vantage points (i.e., have different roles in different settings) and employ a variety of policy influence strategies and skills. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 79 psychologists who were asked to describe their policy influence efforts, experiences, and perspectives. The purpose of the book is to provide insight into the nature of the policy process and how it can be influenced and to portray the unique lived experiences of psychologists working in the policy arena. Influencing Social Policy: Applied Psychology Serving the Public Interest aims to encourage psychologists who are interested in making a difference to become more fully engaged in the policy world. Psychologists presence in the policy arena is sorely needed to apply psychological principles to benefit the public interest. Psychologists are in a unique position not only to conduct policy-relevant research, but also to improve the quality of life for large numbers of citizens via active policy influence efforts. Psychologists can contribute to social policy change from a number of roles and settings, including as researchers in academia, as administrators and staff in a variety of intermediary organizations, and as policy insiders working in the legislative and executive branches of government.

Childrens development of executive functions and the impact of these cognitive processes on childrens lives from the preschool to the upper elementary school years are reviewed in light of current research findings. Chapters in Part One of the text discuss prefrontal brain networks affiliated with executive functions; issues that concern the behavioral measurement of executive functions in clinical populations; the relationship between executive functions and other cognitive (theory of mind) and language processes (plurilingualism) that are emerging in young children; and how executive functions support the transition of children from home to school contexts. Chapters in Part Two of the book focus on individual differences in executive functions among children with disorders such as ASD and ADHD and how these findings can be used to inform intervention. Throughout the text, a focus is placed on exploring the influence of executive functioning on the lives of children at home as well as in school and community contexts.

Abstrak :
This book describes a methodology to represent socio-technical system concerns in the system architecting process. The resulting set of Human Views augments traditional system viewpoints with human-focused data. The Human Viewpoint methodology classifies the socio-technical system context, identifies and collects pertinent data, renders models that can be used for discussion and analysis, and presents the results in Fit for Purpose views that are useful for decision making. The inclusion of the Human Viewpoint during the system architecting stage allows the evaluation of human-system design trade-offs, recognises the impact of the human operator on system performance, and provides the foundation for Human System Integration evaluations during the ensuing system development.
