Abstrak :
The purpose of this volume is to shape conceptual tools to understand the impact of new information and communication technologies (ICTs) on the organization of universities. Traditional research-based universities, the most typical representatives of the higher education system, find themselves challenged by the speed and the wide range of technical innovations, but also by a vast array of implicit assumptions and explicit promises associated with the distribution of digital media. The author observes that as universities increasingly use digital media (computers and the Internet) to accomplish their tasks, a transformation takes place in an evolutionary rather than in a revolutionary way. Using the University of Klagenfurt as an in-depth case study, he explores such dynamic issues as how digital media affect the practice of research, the preservation and dissemination of knowledge (for example, through publishing and archiving), and delivery of education at universities. More broadly, he considers issues of organizational culture and design, administration, and leadership as universities integrate digital technologies into all aspects of their operations.

ORBIT and INA as Children Magazines: A Study on the Media Management - Children Magazines in ParticularSo far there is still very children magazines in Indonesia as for being compared to the number of the children of the age between five and 14 years old. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, in 1999, there were only 15 children magazines for 44,658,700 children in Indonesia. Based on the above facts, the study on the children media management was carried out as a sample two children magazines were singled out, namely. ORBIT and INA. The reasons being chosen were that the two had been published since two years ago, the readership were almost the same, namely, the former was designed for children of nine up to twelve years old. The background theory used for this study was about the functions of the mass media according Laswell and Charles Wright (1948). As for the theory in media management, Edwin Emery (1971) held that editing management of a magazine was the most crucial point for the success of the magazine. This point was underlined by Jim Willis (1993), who said that the success in marketing of a magazine was determined by marketing policy. The method of the study was qualitative design, that used research instrument, namely the researcher herself Collection of the data was carried out through observation, technique of depth interview. Resource persons being interviewed were those who were directly related to the functioning aspects of the children magazine management, such as the editing, production, circulation, promotion, budgeting and personnel staff. The policy and practice of the editing management of both magazines were almost the same. It would be found in their communicating their messages namely using simple and clear language. In case of using foreign idioms both editors provided footnotes for explaining the meanings in Indonesia to the children. The main obstacle was their ability in communicating to the children with children's language. Their marketing process was also different. The amount of percentage for the agents and the schools were also unequal. Production cost of each magazine was also different. It was depended on the quality of the papers and the printing cost. As regards to the way of selection of the staff, the ORBIT magazine selected personnel through the common ordinary process, the INA magazine, however through the personal relation and no selection.
