This study aims to examine the causal relationship between economic growth, Islamic banking development, sukuk market development, and Islamic stock market development in Indonesia. By utilizing VAR model then followed by granger causality, impulse response function, and variance decomposition analysis, this study found that Islamic banking development and Islamic stock market development supports neutrality hypotheses view while sukuk market development supports supply leading hypotheses view. Moreover, this study also found that there are unidirectional causalities from sukuk market development to Islamic banking development and from sukuk market development to Islamic stock market development. Surprisingly, sukuk market and Islamic banking in Indonesia are complement. Islamic banking development and Islamic stock market development are independent of each other."

""The world of development thinkers and practitioners is abuzz with a new lexicon: the idea of "the nexus" between water, food, and energy which is intuitively compelling. It promises better integration of multiple sectoral elements, a better transition to greener economies, and sustainable development. However, there appears to be little agreement on its precise meaning, whether it only complements existing environmental governance approaches or how it can be enhanced in national contexts. One current approach to the nexus treats it as a risk and security matter while another treats it within economic rationality addressing externalities across sector. A third perspective acknowledges it as a fundamentally political process requiring negotiation amongst different actors with distinct perceptions, interests, and practices. This perspective highlights the fact that technical solutions for improving coherence within the nexus may have unintended and negative impacts in other policy areas, such as poverty alleviation and education. The Water-Food-Energy Nexus: Power, Politics and Justice lays out the managerial-technical definitions of the nexus and challenges these conceptions by bringing to the forefront the politics of the nexus, around two key dimensions - a dynamic understanding of water-food-energy systems, and a normative positioning around nexus debates, in particular around social justice. The authors argue that a shift in nexus governance is required towards approaches where limits to control are acknowledged, and more reflexive/plural strategies adopted. This book will be of interest to academic researchers, policy makers, and practitioners in the fields of international development studies, environmental politics, and science and technology studies, as well as international relations" -- Back cover."

In an attempt to increase domestic palm oil consumption, Indonesia has enforced the mandatory use of 20 percent blended biofuel (B20). This policy is part of the government efforts to reduce oil dependency in energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. Nevertheless, the implementation of the policy prones to affect the water and food availability as the demand for biofuel crops is expected to grow significantly in the coming years. Correspondingly, sufficient quantity of water, energy, and food resources is considered essential to achieve the sustainable development agenda. The increasing demand for all three resources undeniably places a great strain on its preservation management. On the other hand, the planning and management of these resources are under dissonant sectoral systems. This issue, which can make the balance between the three resources arduous to realize, needs to be scrutinized. The complex relationship between the three resources reflects a complex dynamic system, needing a holistic approach that considers the integration of Water-Energy-Food (WEF) nexus to understand better the system. Therefore, this study aims to understand the trade-offs between the WEF nexus on the production of biofuel using a system dynamics approach. Many underlying factors affecting biofuel development should be taken into consideration when formulating policy for attaining a sustainable balance between water and food resources. This study indicates that each policy implementation results in various impacts depending on the targeted sectors. Moreover, the policy is tested upon four different scenarios in order to help the policy makers during the formulation process of WEF resources management policy in the biofuel sector. Lastly, further discussion mentions the implications and limitations of the study as a basis to develop future researches on similar theme of WEF nexus in Indonesia"

The increase of energy consumption in Indonesia induces the production of palm oil biodiesel. However, palm oil biodiesel production consumes a large amount of water and energy to supply water. The purpose of this study is to conduct analysis on the relationship between water and energy consumption (energy-water nexus) in biodiesel production in Riau Province. The process simulation of biodiesel production at refinery was done with Unisim Design R390.1 as part of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to evaluate the energy consumption and CO2 emission. Water consumption in biodiesel production was calculated using water footprint method. The result showed that water footprint for FFB, CPO, and biodiesel were 671 m3/t FFB, 3,292 m3/t CPO, and 3,432 m3/t biodiesel, respectively. The total energy consumption and CO2 emission in biodiesel production was 14,252 MJ/t biodiesel and 608.6 kg CO2-eq/t biodiesel. Production of CPO and biodiesel in refineries required around 41.2 and 2.47 million m3 of water. The electricity needed to supply water is 91 and 3.6 million kWh. Compared to other energy production, biodiesel production in Riau in 2017 is the largest water consumer, around 99.3% of total water abstraction, which is mainly rainwater used for plantation stage, and the second largest energy consumer, about 31.7% of total electricity to supply water for CPO and biodiesel production.

"In this book, one of the most highly recognized entrepreneurship scholars shares in a personal and readable way his rich experience and ideas on how entrepreneurship can be researched. Entrepreneurship is a phenomenon of tremendous societal importance. It is also an elusive phenomenon, which makes researching it fun, fascinating—and frustrating at times. In this fully updated edition, numerous real examples accompany the treatment of problems and solutions concerning design, sampling, operationalization and analysis.
Researching Entrepreneurship is targeted primarily at research students and academics who are relatively new to research or to entrepreneurship research. This said, basic knowledge of research methods is assumed, and when foundational issues are discussed they are typically approach from a non-standard angle and/or with an eye to illuminate entrepreneurship-specific problems and solutions. This makes large parts of the contents potentially valuable for entrepreneurship scholars at any level of research proficiency. The book is also of interest to sophisticated, non-academic users with a professional interest in collecting and analyzing data from emerging and young ventures, and to those who make use of published entrepreneurship research. For example, analysts in marketing research or consultancy firms, business associations, statistical agencies and other government offices may find this book to be a valuable tool. Moreover, while the examples are derived from entrepreneurship research, the book provides a unique "experienced empirical researcher" (rather than "textbook method expert") treatment of issues that are of equal relevance across the social sciences. This goes for topics like the role of theory; research design; validity assessment; statistical inference, and replication.
Entrepreneurship research has developed rapidly in the decade that has passed since the first edition. Therefore, all chapters have been comprehensively updated and many have been extended; sometimes to twice the original length. Two of the original chapters have been excluded to make room for entirely new chapters on “the Dependent Variable” and “The Entrepreneurship Nexus.” While retaining a unique, personal tone, the author uses examples and references that build on contributions from a large number of top entrepreneurship researchers."

......The relationship between the financial sector and economic growth is important to reassess in regions with a history of financial crises, such as Southeast Asia. Deindustrialization is also concurrently happening in the region, potentially hampering its pattern of economic development. This study uses a dynamic panel approach to estimate the impact of financial intermediation on economic growth and industrialization, as well as how this relationship is mediated by financial crises and digitalization. Using a sample of 9 ASEAN+ countries from 1996 to 2022, results consistently show that banking sector efficiency positively impacts economic growth and industrialization. For high-income ASEAN+ economies, there is an indication of overfinancing as shown by the negative impact of banking sector depth. Furthermore, the stock market is only significantly impactful towards growth and industrialization in high-income countries, while industrialization in non-high-income countries is more correlated with the banking sector. Lastly, financial crises tend to invert the nexus between financial intermediation, growth, and industrialization, while digitalization tends to amplify it."
