"ABSTRAKSkripsi ini membahas mengenai penggambaran fungsi perpustakaansekolah dalam shoujo manga terbitan MnC Comics 2011. Metode penelitian yangdigunakan adalah analisi isi kuantitatif dengan mengidentifikasi representasifungsi perpustakaan sekolah berdasarkan kegiatan siswa di perpustakaan. Hasilpenelitian menunjukkan fungsi perpustakaan sekolah paling banyakdirepresentasikan sebagai fungsi rekreatif (59%) dan yang paling kecil adalahfungsi tanggung jawab administratif (10%). Representasi fungsi perpustakaansekolah tersebut menunjukkan bahwa perpustakaan sekolah merupakan tempat dimana segala macam interaksi dapat dilakukan oleh siswa. Manga sebagai novelfiktif yang bersifat menghibur umumnya dibuat berdasarkan pengalamankeseharian sehingga dapat menggambarkan kondisi siswa di Jepang dalammemanfaatkan perpustakaan sekolah.

ABSTRACTThis research explains about representation the functions of school

libraries in shoujo manga which was published by MnC Comics 2011. This

research uses quantitative content analysis to calculate the activities of the

characters in school libraries based on certain characteristics to be classified

according to the functions of school libraries. The result of research shows that the

functions of school libraries is the most representated as recreation function (59%)

and the smallest is the administratitive responsibilty function (10%). The

representation functions of school libraries show that the school library is a place

where every kind of interactions can be done by student. Manga as a fiction novel

which is entertaining generally made base on daily experience so that can describe

the condition of students in Japan whom using school libraries."

"Penelitian ini berfokus kepada representasi perpustakaan dalam serial animasi Avatar: The Last AirBender. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dengan metode semiotik yang dikemukakan oleh Roland Barthes yaitu hubungan analisis sintagmatik dan paradigmatik yang bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan representasi perpustakaan dalam serial animasi Avatar: The Last AirBender dengan memahami gambaran komponen perpustakaan dan pemanfaatan informasi yang ditampilkan dalam serial animasi tersebut. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah perpustakaan yang ditampilkan dalam serial animasi Avatar: The Last AirBender adalah sebuah pusat informasi yang tidak mudah untuk dikunjungi oleh pengguna. Perpustakaan tersebut memiliki planetarium memiliki pengaruh kepada isi cerita dalam serial animasi tersebut.

This study focus on representation of libraries in the serial animation Avatar: The Last Airbender. This study applying qualitative research method with semiotic method stated by Rolad Barthes namely analysis relationship of syntagmatic and paradigmatic which intend to describe representation of libraries in the serial animation Avatar: The Last AirBender by understanding the library component and information usage which shown in the serial animation. The conclution of this study that the library which shown in the serial animation was an information center that was hard to be visited by the user. The library have a planetarium that have a major influence in the entire story."

"Penelitian ini merupakan analisis terhadap representasi perpustakaan akademik dalam novel dengan genre fiksi fantasi-sejarah berjudul Babel karya R.F. Kuang. Dalam novel ini banyak peristiwa yang terjadi di perpustakaan di Universitas Oxford. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana penggambaran konsep, fungsi dan peranan perpustakaan akademik sebagai pusat kegiatan keilmuan dan aktivitas nonakademik mahasiswa dalam novel Babel. Penelitian menggunakan metode analisis isi kualitatif milik Mariette Bengtsson terhadap teks novel. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara membaca secara ekstensif, dan menggarisbawahi kalimat atau paragraf yang sesuai dengan fokus penelitian. Hasil penelitian menemukan bahwa perpustakaan dalam novel Babel merupakan perpustakaan riset milik fakultas yang termasuk ke dalam kategori perpustakaan akademik. Perpustakaan memiliki fungsi dan peranan dalam mendukung kegiatan akademik mahasiswa melalui pemanfaatan ruang perpustakaan yang digambarkan sebagai learning commons, co-working space, dan makerspace, sehingga menjadi pusat kegiatan keilmuan dan praktik para akademisi. Namun ditemukan bahwa perpustakaan tidak bersikap netral dalam memberikan pelayanan dan cenderung membatasi cakupan penelitian mahasiswa dan pembatasan akses informasi dari publik. Selain itu, pemanfaatan ruang perpustakaan juga digunakan untuk kegiatan di luar lingkup akademis, seperti sebagai tempat pusat pengembangan ilmu dan pemanfaatan kekuatan ajaib; tempat pergerakan sosial berlangsung, dan pusat pergerakan aktivisme mahasiswa. Representasi perpustakaan dalam novel ini dipengaruhi oleh latar belakang sejarah dan pendidikan serta imajinasi penulis dalam menyampaikan kritik terhadap dunia pendidikan dan lembaga informasi di lingkungan akademik. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa berdasarkan perspektif penulis, perpustakaan direpresentasikan sebagai pusat kegiatan keilmuan dan akademik mahasiswa, serta sebagai tempat yang terlibat secara langsung dalam kehidupan politik mahasiswa dan menjadi pusat pergerakan mahasiswa.

This study analyzes the representation of academic libraries in the historical-fantasy fiction novel ‘Babel’ by R.F. Kuang, where most of the stories are set in the libraries of Oxford University. It aims to understand how the concepts, functions, and roles of the academic library as centres of scholarly activities and student activities are portrayed in the novel. The research method used   a qualitative content analysis by Mariette Bengtsson. Data was collected through extensive reading and underlining sentences or paragraphs that match the research focus. The results found that the libraries in the novel are the faculties research library which counted in an academic libraries category. The library provided support for student academic activities by being portrayed as a learning commons, co-working space, and makerspace; hence they became the center of scholarly activities for scholars. However, the libraries are portrayed as being not neutral in providing services and tend to limit the scope of student research and public access to information. Otherwise, the library as spaces also used for non-academic activities, such as a source of production and knowledge development center of magical powers; where social movements take place, and the center of student activism movements. The study found that the representation of the library in this novel was influenced by historical and educational background and the author's imagination to deliver critiques towards the academic world and its information institutions. Therefore, based on the author’s perspective, the library is portrayed as a center for scholarly activities and a place directly involved in student political life as it becomes the center of student movements."

Penelitian ini menggunakan metodesemiotik dengan menggunakan analisis yang dikemukakan oleh Roland Barthesyaitu analisis hubungan sintagmatik dan paradigmatik yang bertujuan untukmendeskripsikan representasi perpustakaan dan pustakawan dengan memahamigambaran perpustakaan dan pustakawan yang ditampilkan dalam film. Hasilpenelitian ini menyatakan bahwa dalam analisis sintagmatik menunjukkanrepresentasi perpustakaan tercermin dari perpustakaan Metropolitan PublicLibrary dengan representasi pustakawan tercermin dari tokoh Flynn. Analisisparadigmatik menunjukkan representasi perpustakaan dan pustakawan dilihat darideskripsi para tokoh dan juga latar tempat. Sebagai kesimpulan, film inimerepresentasikan perpustakaan sebagai tempat yang menyimpan koleksi bukudan benda berharga serta pustakawan memiliki wawasan luas serta memilikikemampuan meneliti yang baik.

Penelitian ini menggunakanmetode semiotik dengan menggunakan analisis yang digagas oleh Roland Barthesyaitu analisis penandaan dua tingkat denotasi dan konotasi yang bertujuan untukmendeskripsikan fungsi perpustakaan bagi pengguna perpustakaan yangdiwakilkan oleh setiap tokoh yang berperan dalam ILM PNRI tersebut. Hasilpenelitian ini mengatakan bahwa analisis makna denotasi ditunjukkan gambaranperpustakaan dengan berbagai variasinya. Sementara itu, analisis makna konotasimenunjukkan representasi perpustakaan sebagai sahabat masyarakat yang dapatmembantu mereka meraih cita-cita. ABSTRACT

This thesis analyst about the representation of library in National Library of

Indonesia’s Public Service Announcement Series ‘Floating Library’. This

research use semiotic method analysis expressed by Roland Barthes namely two

level signification analysist that consist denotation and connotation meaning who

aims to describe the function of library for the user which present by each

character in that Public Service Announcement. The result of this research show

that denotation meaning analysis are present by the picture of library with it’s

variation. Meanwhile, the connotation meaning analyst show that library

representation as people’s bestfriend whom help them to reach their future. In

conclusion, this announcement representing library as an organization who

participate to developing the potential in each person whom use it’s service."
