"Penulisan ini membahas kemungkinan peralihan sebagian sifat ruang first place, second place, dan third place yang saling bersarang. Melihat bagaimana keterhubungan rangkaian affordances di dalamnya mengakomodasi berbagai kebutuhan dan aktivitas manusia. Studi ini melibatkan penerapan persepsi karakter ke dalam ruang berdasarkan teori Gibson tentang rangkaian affordances dalam interaksi antara persepsi dan tindakan. Affordances di sini sebagai kemungkinan interaktif dari objek atau lingkungan tertentu. Penulisan ini menggunakan metode hierarki means-end untuk melihat keterhubungan dari rangkaian bersarang yang terjadi pada setiap tiga data studi kasus. Penulisan ini merupakan studi literatur tentang beberapa coworking space dan ruang kerja menggunakan data sekunder dari artikel, web, dan sosial media. Peralihan sifat tempat yang dilihat adalah antara third place (coworking space) dan second place (tempat kerja) yang menghasilkan beberapa pola komposisi fungsi dari first place, second place, dan third place. Rangkaian affordances yang bersarang ditinjau dari elemen fisik, batasan ruang, sosial dan perilaku, dan interaksi antar manusia. Studi ini mengungkapkan bahwa karakteristik fisik ruang kerja atau coworking space dapat mendukung interaksi sosial dan kebutuhan manusia yang menciptakan peralihan sebagian sifat ruang first place, second place, third place, dan sebaliknya.

This study discusses the shifting function of places between First place, Second place, and Third place in coworking spaces by understanding the relationship of the spatial designs and behaviors by its nested affordances. The study engaged with the implementation of the character's perception into a space based on Gibson's theory of nested affordances in interactions between perception and action, with affordances as interactive possibilities from certain objects or environments. This research employed mean-ends hierarchy method to acknowledge the nested relationship that occurs in each three case studies data collections. The study is a literature study about workspace and coworking spaces using secondary data from articles, web, and social media. The shifted space feature that is seen is between third place (coworking space) and second place (work place) which results in several composition of functions from first place, second place, and third place. Nested affordances can be seen from the physical elements, spatial boundaries, social activities, and interactions between people. The study reveals that the physical characteristics of the coworking space supports social interaction and human needs which creates shifting functions of places from first place, second place, third place, and vice versa."

"Tren compound space muncul sebagai respons terhadap meningkatnya kebutuhan ruang publik yang mendukung interaksi sosial, terutama pasca-pandemi. Third place, sebagai ruang untuk sosialisasi di luar rumah (first place) dan tempat kerja (second place), kini juga berfungsi sebagai ruang produktivitas. Hadirnya elemen fisik di third place memengaruhi cara manusia menggunakan ruang tersebut, menciptakan potensi dualitas fungsi antara ruang sosial dan produktivitas. Penelitian ini bertujuan memahami compound space sebagai third place dan mengeksplorasi potensi dualitas fungsi ruang sebagai second place dan third place. Analisis dilakukan terhadap elemen fisik dan konfigurasi ruang pada compound space untuk mengidentifikasi karakteristik dan fungsinya dalam mendukung aktivitas sosial dan produktivitas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa compound space mendukung aktivitas sosial dan kreatif, memenuhi sebagian besar karakteristik third place. Dalam konteks urban modern pasca-pandemi, compound space memiliki potensi dualitas fungsi sebagai ruang sosialisasi sekaligus ruang kerja. Namun, aktivitas produktivitas di ruang ini cenderung berdurasi singkat, sementara sosialisasi tetap menjadi fungsi utama. Tidak semua third place menyediakan elemen fisik yang mendukung pekerjaan, seperti meja nyaman, stopkontak, dan suasana tenang. Compound space memiliki potensi besar sebagai ruang publik inklusif dan adaptif yang mengakomodasi kebutuhan sosial dan produktif, dengan keberhasilan fungsinya bergantung pada desain elemen fisik yang responsif terhadap kebutuhan masyarakat.

The trend of compound spaces has emerged as a response to the increasing demand for public spaces that support social interaction, especially in the post-pandemic era. Third places, which serve as spaces for socializing outside the home (first place) and workplace (second place), now also function as spaces for productivity. The presence of physical elements in third places influences how people utilize these spaces, creating the potential for dual functionality between social and productive uses. This study aims to understand compound spaces as third places and explore the potential for dual functionality as both second and third places. The analysis focuses on the physical elements and spatial configurations of compound spaces to identify their characteristics and functions in supporting social and productive activities. The findings reveal that compound spaces support social and creative activities, fulfilling most of the characteristics of third places. In the context of modern urban life in the post-pandemic era, compound spaces show the potential for dual functionality as spaces for both social interaction and work. However, productivity activities in these spaces tend to be short-lived, with socialization remaining the primary function. Not all third places provide physical elements that support work, such as comfortable desks, power outlets, and quiet atmospheres. Compound spaces hold great potential as inclusive and adaptive public spaces that accommodate both social and productive needs, with their success depending on the design of physical elements that are responsive to the needs of society.
