"ABSTRAKSkripsi ini membahas tentang konsep pernikahan putih di dalam budaya Baratyang direpresentasikan oleh film Bride Wars. Dengan menggunakan teorisemiotik milik Roland Barthes, beberapa ritual serta atribut pernikahan putih yangditampilkan dalam film tersebut dianalisa untuk mengetahui makna yang terdapatdi dalamnya, terkhusus makna konotasi atau mitos. Dari analisa tersebut,diketahui bahwa di dalam ritual dan atribut pernikahan putih terdapat mitos-mitosyang memanipulasi perempuan. Mitos-mitos tersebut membentuk tataran idealpernikahan yang harus dipenuhi oleh perempuan. Tuntutan untuk perempuanmengikuti tataran ideal tersebut akhirnya membangun karakter-karakter di dalamdiri perempuan, yang tanpa disadari merugikan diri perempuan itu sendiri

ABSTRACTThe focus of this study is to show the way the white wedding concept manipulate

women as represented in a movie, titled Bride Wars. Using the semiotic theory of

Roland Barthes, some white wedding rituals and attributes in Bride Wars are

analyzed in order to find the denotative and conotative meanings within them.

From the analysis, it is shown that the connotative meanings or myths which lies

within the rituals and attributes manipulate the idea of wedding on women?s

minds. The myths unconciously put pressure in women?s mind so that women

follow the ideal standard of a wedding which is constructed by the myth.

Unfortunately, the pressure build some characters within women that causes

detriment to women."

"[ABSTRAKJurnal ini membahas tentang simbol dari lentera merah dalam film Raise The Red Lantern (Dà Hóng Dēnglóng Gāogāo Guà (大红灯笼高高挂), 1991). Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan makro sastra atau ekstrinsik yaitu, menganalisis unsur-unsur di luar karya sastra yakni pengkajian konteks karya sastra di luar teks. Tujuan penulisan adalah menganalisis makna semiotika dari lentera merah. Karakteristik yang paling menonjol dalam film ini adalah lentera merah yang hampir menjadi penentu jalan cerita film ini karena melambangkan kekuasaan dari sang tuan rumah.

"Jurnal ini menganalisis penokohan Yu Mo dalam film The Flowers of War. Yu Mo berperan penting dalam membangun cerita di dalam film. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengungkapkan analisis penokohan tokoh Yu Mo serta memaparkan perubahan karakter yang terlihat pada Yu Mo dalam film The Flowers of War. Penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan pendekatan intrinsik yang pada dasarnya memusatkan pada unsur-unsur yang ada dalam karya sastra itu sendiri. Analisis unsur instrinsik penokohan pada film ini merupakan landasan penulis untuk menganalisis penokohan Yu Mo dalam film. Penelitian ini menganalisis karakter Yu Mo untuk mengetahui pengaruhnya terhadap alur film The Flowers of War.

This journal analyzes the characterizations of Yu Mo in The Flowers of War. Yu Mo plays an important role in building the story in the film. The purpose of this research is to reveal character analysis of Yu Mo as well as describe the character changes seen on Yu Mo in The Flowers of War. Research is done by using an intrinsic approach that basically focuses on the elements that exist in the literary work itself. Analysis of the intrinsic elements of characterization in this film is the foundation of the author to analyze the characterization of Yu Mo in the film. "ABSTRAKFilm Balada Awan dan Air merupakan film yang menceritakan kisah cinta tokoh perempuan Wang Biyun dan tokoh laki-laki Chen Qiushui pada masa lalu dengan latar sejarah Cina dan Taiwan tahun 1950-an. Kisah cinta mereka kembali diangkat setelah keponakan dari Wang Biyun, yaitu Wang Xiaorui berniat untuk menulis novel tentangnya. Akan tetapi, tokoh Wang Xiaorui dianggap tidak banyak berperan dalam kisah film ini karena hanya muncul dalam beberapa adegan singkat saja. Namun, kehadiran tokoh Wang Xiaorui justru tidak boleh disepelekan. Oleh karenanya, jurnal ini akan membahas dari segi penokohan dan alur untuk mengungkap seberapa jauh peran Wang Xiaorui dalam kisah film Balada Awan dan Air ini.

ABSTRACTThe Knot Cloud and Water Ballad movie is a film about the love story of female character Wang Biyun and the male character Chen Qiushui in the past Chinese and Taiwanese history of the 1950s. Their love story is reappointed after Wang Biyun 39 s niece, Wang Xiaorui has a desire to write a novel about her. However,Wang Xiaorui is cosidered only roles a little in the story of this movie because she appears in only a few scenes. Nevertheless, the character Wang Xiaorui should not be ignored. Therefore, this journal will discuss in terms of characterizations and plot to reveal how far the role of Wang Xiaorui in the story of this The Knot Cloud and Water Ballad movie. "

"The Great Wall (长城 Chángchéng) adalah film kerja sama antara Cina dan Hollywood yang disutradarai oleh Zhang Yimou. Film ini resmi dirilis pada Desember 2016 di Cina dan Februari 2017 di Amerika Serikat. Film yang mengambil latar waktu pada masa Dinasti Song Utara (960-1127 M) ini menceritakan tentang pedagang dari barat yang melakukan perjalanan ke Cina untuk mencari bubuk mesiu. Ia tidak sengaja terjebak dalam Tembok Besar bersama pasukan rahasia Cina yang sedang bertarung melawan serangan gerombolan monster. Pada akhirnya ia melepaskan tujuan awalnya datang ke Cina setelah berinteraksi dengan pasukan tersebut, khususnya lewat tokoh utama perempuan yang mengenalkannya kepada xinren (信任xìnrèn). Xinren adalah sebuah konsep yang berakar dari Konfusianisme yang memiliki arti percaya. Tulisan ini membahas penjelasan xinren, perbedaan motivasi dua tokoh utama (Jenderal Lin Mei dan William Garin) dalam bertarung, serta pergeseran karakter William melalui adegan-adegan yang berhubungan dengan xinren. Tulisan ini menggunakan metode deskriptif analitis untuk menganalisis data tersebut. Hasil analisis menunjukan bahwa karakter William bergeser dari egois menjadi turut memikirkan kepentingan orang lain berkat xinren.

The Great Wall (长城 Chángchéng) is a China-Hollywood coproduction film directed by Zhang Yimou. It was officially released on December 2016 in China and February 2017 in USA. The film, which takes place in the time of the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127 CE) tells the story of a trader from the west who traveled to China seeking for gunpowder. He was accidentaly trapped in the Great Wall with Chinese secret troops who were fighting against attack from hordes of monsters. In the end he disposed his original purpose of coming to China after interacting with the troops, especially through the main female character, who introduces him to xinren (信任xìnrèn). Xinren is a concept rooted from Confucianism which means trust. This paper discuss xinren explanation, the difference in motivation of the two main characters (General Lin Mei and William Garin) in fighting, as well as William`s character shift through scenes related to xinren. This paper uses descriptive analytical methods to analyze data. The results of the analysis show that William`s character shift from selfish to take part in considering other people`s interest because of xinren."

"Film (色，戒) Sè, Jiè karya Ang Lee dirilis pada tahun 2007 , mengisahkan tentang perjalanan seorang wanita bernama Wang Jiazhi yang bekerja sebagai mata-mata. Film ini diangkat dari novela dengan judul yang sama karya penulis wanita ternama di Cina, Eileen Chang. Berlatarkan Hongkong di tahun 1938 dan Shanghai di tahun 1942 pada saat perang Sino-Jepang kedua. Film ini mengisahkan bagaimana sosok Wang Jiazhi, seorang mahasiswi tahun pertama Universitas Lingnan, menjadi seorang mata-mata yang menargetkan kolabolator Jepang bernama Yi Mocheng. Melalui analisis tokoh Wang Jiazhi, pada makalah ini penulis ingin membahas apa saja strategi yang dilakukan selama ia menjadi mata-mata, dan apakah tokoh Wang Jiazhi mampu merepresentasikan narasi mata-mata penggoda atau seductress spy yang berkembang pada masa Republik Tiongkok (1911-1949).

Sè, Jiè (色，戒) is a movie directed by Ang Lee and was released in 2007. The movie tells about a long journey of a young woman named Wang Jiazhi that works as a spy. This movie made based on a same-titled novella written by the most famous female writer in China, Eileen Chang. The story is set in Hong Kong in 1938 and Shanghai in 1942, during the Sino-Japanese war. It depicts how a Lingnan University freshman, Wang Jiazhi, became a spy and targeted a Japanese collaborator named Yi Mocheng. Through the character analysis of Wang Jiazhi, this paper will discuss what kind of strategy that Jiazhi use to get into Yi Mocheng and did the character of Wang Jiazhi represented the narration of seductress-spy that is familiar during the Republic of China period (1911-1949)."

"Film Under the Hawthorn Tree (山楂树之恋Sanzhashuzhi Lian) berkisah tentang hubungan cinta sepasang kekasih yang akrab dipanggil Jingqiu (Zhang Jingqiu) dan Lao San (Sun Jianxin). Film ini mengambil latar waktu pada masa Revolusi Kebudayaan. Jingqiu dan Lao San memiliki hubungan yang sangat unik, penuh keluguan, menjadikan pohon sanzha sebagai simbol cinta, yang semuanya terjalin pada saat Revolusi Budaya berlangsung. Sepanjang film tidak terlihat adanya campur tangan atau pengawasan Partai terhadap perjalanan kisah cinta mereka. Pengawasan dan keberatan terhadap hubungan mereka justru muncul dari pihak Ibu Jingqiu. Keberatan dari Ibu Jingqiu disebabkan oleh alasan-alasan politis dan kondisi keluarga mereka. Bagaimana kondisi keluarganya? Dan apa yang terjadi dengan hubungan cinta mereka dengan latar belakang keluarga masing-masing? Untuk menjawab pertanyaan ini, penulis akan melakukan pembedahan terhadap film melalui analisis tokoh dan penokohan serta analisis cerita dalam film. Melalui analisis ini diharapkan dapat mengungkapkan bagaimana keunikan kisah cinta antara kedua tokoh yang berbeda latar belakang di masa Revolusi Kebudayaan dalam film Cinta Under the Hawthorn Tree (山楂树之恋Sanzhashuzhi Lian).

`Under the Hawthorn Tree,` a movie that tells a romance story of Jingqiu (Zhang Jingqiu) and Lao San (Sun Jianxin). The tale of this two lovers set during the Chinese Cultural Revolution. Jingqiu and Lao San have a very unique relationship, ingenuous love, they both perceive shanzha tree as a symbol of love. Although their love tale in the movie shows that there is no interference to their relationship by the communist party, it's Jingqiu's mother that disapprove about their love between one another. Family background and politics reason are causing this objection from Jingqiu's mother. What is the background situation within their family? What happen with their love relationship with such family circumstances? To answer these questions, the author will examine the story through character and characterization analysis by also analyzing the story plot within the movie. Through this analysis, the author expects to reveal uniqueness of this romance between two different characters and two different background during the Cultural Revolution in the movie entitled Under the Hawthorn Tree (山楂树之恋Sanzhashuzhi Lian)."
