ABSTRAKPenelitian ini meneliti tentang persepsi dan kebutuhan bahasa Inggris mengenai Bahasa Inggris untuk Tujuan
Khusus pada siswa kelas 11 SMA Negeri 116 Ragunan. Hal ini dikarenakan para siswa di sekolah tersebut
adalah atlet profesional remaja. Perbedaan kebutuhan bahasa Inggris dengan rata-rata siswa SMA lain
menjadikan penelitian ini signifikan. SMA Negeri 116 Ragunan memberlakukan kurikulum terbaru di
Indonesia, Kurikulum 2013, yang bisa dikombinasikan dengan tujuan khusus para siswa. Metode yag
digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kuantitatif, menggunakan kuesioner tertutup dan
wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa persepsi bahasa Inggris para siswa masih rendah di empat
aspek (mendengar, membaca, menulis, dan berbicara), namun yang terendah adalah kecakapan berbicara.
Penting bagi para guru untuk mempersiapkan siswanya dengan kecakapan yang paling mereka butuhkan dan
memenuhi perubahan kurikulum di Indonesia.
ABSTRACTThis study investigates English language perception and needs for English for Specific Purpose of 11th gradestudents at 116 State High School Ragunan, since the students are teenage professional athletes. Thedifference English need with the average high school students’ need make this study significant. The schoolis also applying the latest Indonesian curriculum, Kurikulum 2013 which can be combined with the specificpurpose of the students. The method used in this study is descriptive quantitative, using closed-questionnaireand interview. The result shows that the students’ perception of English is still low in four aspects (listening,reading, writing, and speaking), but the lowest is speaking skill.
