"Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh lama perendaman denture adhesive cream terhadap kuat rekat resin akrilik polimerisasi panas. Krim pada plat akrilik direndam dalam akuades selama 15 detik, 30 detik, dan 60 detik, kemudian kuat rekat diukur dengan alat PASCO-Economy Force Sensor CI-6476. Uji analisis statistik menggunakan Anova one-way. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan Kuat rekat meningkat dengan p<0,05 pada perendaman selama 15 detik dan 30 detik, sedangkan kuat rekat menurun dengan p<0,05 pada perendaman selama 60 detik. Disimpulkan bahwa krim yang direndam dalam akuades lebih dari 30 detik tidak dapat meningkatkan kuat rekat resin akrilik polimerisasi panas.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of immersion time of denture adhesive cream in distilled water to the acrylic resin's adhesive strength. Cream on acrylic plate was immersed in distilled water for 15 seconds, 30 seconds, and 60 seconds. Adhesive strength was measured by PASCO-Economy Force Sensor CI-6476. Statistic analysis using one-way ANOVA showed that adhesive strength were significantly increased after immersion in 15 seconds and 30 seconds, and significantly decreased after immersion in 60 seconds. It was concluded that denture adhesive cream couldn't increase the acrylic resin's adhesive strength after immersed more than 30 seconds."

"An experimental laboratory study has been conducted to investigate the effect of temporary zinc oxide eugenol cement on the transverse strength of self-cure acrylic resin. Two groups of resin plates 20x9x1 mm in dimensions were incorporated in the study. Each groups consisted of 31 specimens. On the first group was applied a 0.1 mm thickness of temporary zinc oxide eugenol cement on acrylic which is only partially polymerized. The time we establish here was 30 minutes, thus the zinc oxide eugenol cement was applied 30 minutes following the beginning of the mix.
After being stored in a incubator with the temperature set at 37°C for 7 days in water, all the specimens were subjected to load by Shimadzu machine with cross head speed of 0.05 inch/min- Results were analyzed with T-test showing that the two groups differed significantly. It was observed that zinc oxide eugenol cement decreases the transverse strength of self-cure acrylic resin significantly By mathematical equation, 0-03 mm increase in thickness in the experimental group might produce the same strength as the control group."

"Latar belakang: Kehilangan gigi dapat menyebabkan terganggunya kemampuan mastikasi sehingga dapat mempengaruhi kesehatan umum dan kualitas hidup individu. Pemakaian gigi tiruan sebagian lepasan akrilik yang sesuai dengan klasifikasi kehilangan gigi dapat membantu mengembalikan fungsi gigi yang hilang, sehingga diharapkan mampu meningkatkan kemampuan mastikasi. Namun, tidak semua pengguna gigi tiruan memiliki kemampuan mastikasi yang lebih baik setelah menggunakan gigi tiruan.
Tujuan: Menganalisis pengaruh pemakaian gigi tiruan sebagian lepasan akrilik berdasarkan klasifikasi Kennedy terhadap kemampuan mastikasi, menganalisis hubungan antar kelas pada klasifikasi Kennedy terhadap kemampuan mastikasi, menganalisis pengaruh faktor sosiodemografi usia,jenis kelamin, tingkat pendidikan terhadap kehilangan gigi dan kemampuan mastikasi.
Metode: Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan desain cross sectional pada 30 pasien RSKGM Fakultas Kedokteran Gigi Universitas Indonesia berusia 20 tahun ke atas yang baru menggunakan gigi tiruan sebagian lepasan akrilik. Dilakukan pencatatan diri subjek serta wawancara pengisian kuesioner kemampuan mastikasi.
Hasil penelitian: Pemakaian gigi tiruan sebagian lepasan akrilik pada kehilangan gigi berdasarkan klasifikasi Kennedy diketahui memiliki pengaruh p=0,00 terhadap kemampuan mastikasi. Gigi tiruan sebagian lepasan akrilik kelas 1 dan kelas 2 Kennedy, kelas 2 dan kelas 3 Kennedy, kelas 2 dan kelas 4 Kennedy memiliki pengaruh dengan kemampuan mastikasi. Tidak terdapat pengaruh antara faktor sosiodemografi usia,jenis kelamin, tingkat pendidikan, dan tingkat pendapatan terhadap kemampuan mastikasi.
Kesimpulan: Terdapat pengaruh pemakaian gigi tiruan sebagian lepasan akrilik berdasarkan klasifikasi Kennedy terhadap kemampuan mastikasi.

Background: Tooth loss can cause disruption of masticatory ability and may affect patient's general health and quality of life. The use of acrylic removable partial denture based on the classification of tooth loss may restore the oral function, which is expected to increase patient's masticatory ability. However, not all denture wearers have better masticatory ability after using the removable partial denture.
Objectives: To analyze the effect of removable partial denture wearing based on Kennedys classification towards masticatory ability, correlation between each class on Kennedy's classification towards masticatory ability, and the effect of sociodemographic factors age, gender, educational level toward tooth loss and masticatory ability.
Methods: Cross Sectional Study was conducted on 30 patients of RSKGM Faculty of Dentistry University of Indonesia aged 20 years and over who just used removable partial denture. Subjects personal data were obtained, and interview for masticatory ability was conducted.
Results: There was significant difference p 0,00 between removable partial denture wearing on tooth loss based on kennedys classification towards masticatory ability. Kennedy class 1 and 2, class 2 and 3, class 2 and class 4 removable partial denture have significant difference with masticatory ability. There was no significant difference between sociodemographic factors age, gender, educational level, income level toward tooth loss and masticatory ability.
Conclusion: The use of removable partial denture based on Kennedys classification may increase patients masticatory ability.

"Latar Belakang: Prevalensi denture stomatitis pada pengguna gigi tiruan dengan basis cukup tinggi.
Tujuan: Mengamati pengaruh kekasaran bahan basis gigi tiruan terhadap jumlah koloni Streptococcus mutans.
Metode: Kekasaran spesimen diukur menggunakan surface roughness tester. Spesimen dicelupkan ke dalam eppendorf tube modifikasi berisi Streptococcus mutans dengan durasi inkubasi 12 jam dan 24 jam. Data dianalisis dengan Korelasi Bivariat (Pearson).
Hasil: Terdapat hubungan kuat positif antara pemolesan bahan basis gigi tiruan dengan jumlah koloni Streptococcus mutans.
Kesimpulan: Penurunan nilai kekasaran permukaan setelah dilakukan pemolesan pada bahan basis gigi tiruan metal, resin akrilik, dan valplast, akan diikuti dengan penurunan jumlah koloni Streptococcus mutans.

Introduction: The prevalence of denture stomatitis is high in denture wearers.
Objectives: The objective of this study is to observe the effect of surface roughness of denture base materials to the amount of Streptococcus mutans.
Methods: Surface roughness was measured by using surface roughness tester. Specimens were dipped into the eppendorf tube containing Streptococcus mutans and incubated for 12 and 24 hours. Statistical analysis was conducted by Bivariate Correlation (Pearson).
Results: There is a strong positive correlation between polishing denture base material with the amount of Streptococcus mutans.
Conclusion: The decrease in the value of surface roughness after polishing the denture base metal, acrylic resin, and valplast is followed by the decrease in amount of Streptococcus mutans.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan kuat rekat geser dan Adhesive
Remnant Index (ARI) dua produk breket metal yang direkatkan dengan satu adesif.
Dua puluh gigi premolar atas manusia ditanam pada silinder PVC dengan resin
akrilik. Spesimen dibagi menjadi dua kelompok, kelompok A: breket metal 3B, Cina
+ Transbond XT; kelompok B: breket metal Protect, Cina + Transbond XT (3M,
Unitek, Amerika). Dihasilkan rerata kuat rekat geser 6,09 dan 7,91 MPa pada
kelompok A dan B (p<0,05) dan nilai ARI: 1 dan 2 pada kedua kelompok (p>0,05).
Disimpulkan bahwa dua kelompok memiliki nilai kuat rekat geser yang berbeda
bermakna dengan kegagalan ikatan bersifat kohesif

"Polymerization of a self acrylic resin often done improperly. In daily practice, some put in room temperature water, some in warm water, but many of them left it in the open air. In the dental laboratory, a pressure cooker was used in order to get a better result. However, many clinicians did not like to use it due to the cost and inconveniency. In order to get an effective and less expansive equipment, a simple 'Mini Pressure Chamber-45' (Alat Tekan Mini-45) was developed. It wa made from a 4 inch PVC (about 10 cm in diameter). The mechanism of this equipment was to give a pressure to the resin during polymerization through a valve which was connected to the dental compressor. The pressure given was about 1 kg/cm2, and it was given in 5 minutes. The purpose of this study was to show the effectiveness of MPC-45 in reducing the porosity of the self cure acrylic resin in compare to the other kind of treatment. There were 5 groups of treatment and each group consisted of 30 specimen. In group 1, the samples were put in the open air during polymerization. In group 2, samples were dipped in the room temperature water, and in group 3 samples were dipperd in warm water (40.1°C). In group 4, samples were dipped in a pressure cooker for 10 minutes. In group 5, samples were dipped in MPC-45 under 1 kg/cm2 pressure for 5 minutes. The result showed that MPC-45 was the most effective method in reducing the porosity of the self-cure acrylic resin."

"Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh lama perendaman dalam larutan pembersih gigi tiruan terhadap kekuatan transverse resin akrilik polimerisasipanas. Spesimen direndam dalam larutan pembersih gigi tiruan dan akuades selama 7 hari 14 jam 30 menit, 10 hari 3 jam 20 menit dan 12 hari 16 jam 10 menit sebagai simulasi perendaman 5-menit selama enam, delapan dan sepuluh tahun. Kekuatan transverse diukur menggunakan uji 3-point bending. Uji T tidakberpasangan dan one-way ANOVA menunjukkan penurunan kekuatan transverse resin akrilik dengan p0,05 pada perendaman dalam larutan pembersih, sebaliknya perendaman dalam akuades mengalami penurunan dengan p0,05 pada kelompok delapan dan sepuluh tahun dibandingkan larutan pembersih.

This study investigates the effect of immersion time in denture cleanser to transverse strength of heat-cured acrylic resin. Specimens were immersed in denture cleanser and aquadest for 7 days 14 hours 30 minutes, 10 days 3 hours 20 minutes and 12 days 16 hours 10 minutes simulating 5-minutes immersion for six, eight, and ten years. Transverse strength was measured using 3-point bending test. Independent T-test and one-way ANOVA showed the transverse strength of specimens immersed in denture cleanser does not decrease, contrary to aquadest. Consequently, the strength of specimens in aquadest are lower than in denture cleanser after year 8.

"Latar Belakang: Dalam dunia kedokteran gigi, terdapat banyak pilihan material restoratif yang dapat digunakan, salah satunya yaitu resin komposit. Seiring dengan perkembangan teknologi, para peneliti berhasil mengembangakan resin komposit baru yaitu Bulk-Fill. Sebagai contoh adalah resin komposit Giomer Bulk-Fill yang memiliki berbagai sifat seperti sifat mekanik, fisis dan biologis. Namun, belum ada penelitian pada resin komposit Giomer Bulk-Fill yang secara spesifik menguji nilai kekuatan tarik diametral yang merupakan salah satu sifat mekanik material restoratif.
Tujuan Penelitian: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh lama perendaman 1, 24, dan 72 jam serta perbedaan nilai pH saliva buatan 7; 5,5; dan 4,5 terhadap kekuatan tarik diametral resin komposit Giomer Bulk-Fill.
Metode: Penelitian eksperimental laboratorik dengan menggunakan 90 spesimen berbentuk silindris pejal dengan diameter 6 mm dan tinggi 3 mm yang diuji menggunakan Universal Testing Machine (Shimadzu AGS-X 5kN, Japan) dan dibagi ke dalam 3 kelompok pH larutan saliva buatan yaitu 7; 5,5; dan 4,5; serta 3 kelompok lama perendaman yaitu 1, 24, dan 72 jam.
Hasil: Hasil pengujian menggunakan uji One-way ANOVA menunjukkan adanya perbedaan bermakna pada spesimen-spesimen yang digunakan (p<0,05). Pada kelompok spesimen yang direndam dalam larutan saliva buatan dengan pH 7, hasil rerata kekuatan tarik diametral pada perendaman selama 1 jam adalah sebesar 36,7 ± 2,7 MPa. Kemudian mengalami penurunan setelah perendaman 24 jam dengan rerata nilai kekuatan tarik diametralnya sebesar 35,2 ± 2,2 MPa dan meningkat kembali setelah perendaman 72 jam dengan hasil rerata kekuatan tarik diametralnya sebesar 40,1 ± 3,6 MPa. Pada kelompok spesimen yang direndam dalam larutan saliva buatan dengan pH 4,5, pada perendaman selama 1 jam hasil rerata kekuatan tarik diametralnya sebesar 33,6 ± 2,4 MPa. Kemudian setelah perendaman 24 jam dan 72 jam meningkat menjadi 42,6 ± 2 MPa dan 44,2 ± 2,8 MPa. Pada kelompok spesimen yang direndam dalam larutan saliva buatan dengan pH 5,5, hasil rerata kekuatan tarik diametral setelah perendaman selama 1 jam adalah sebesar 34 ± 2,4 MPa. Namun, terjadi perbedaan jika dibandingkan dengan kelompok pH 4,5 yaitu pada kelompok dengan pH 5,5 pada lama perendaman 24 jam terjadi peningkatan yaitu sebesar 44,7 ± 2,8 MPa kemudian menurun setelah perendaman 72 jam dengan nilai rerata sebesar 39 ± 3,3 MPa.
Kesimpulan: Nilai kekuatan tarik diametral resin komposit Giomer Bulk-Fill tidak dipengaruhi oleh pH saliva buatan 4,5; 5,5; dan 7 yang digunakan di dalam penelitian ini. Nilai kekuatan tarik diametral resin komposit Giomer Bulk-Fill yang direndam selama 1, 24, dan 72 jam di dalam saliva buatan dengan pH 4,5; 5,5; dan 7 secara umum mengalami peningkatan sehingga lama perendaman dalam penelitian ini mempengaruhi nilai kekuatan tarik diametral resin komposit Giomer Bulk-Fill.

Background: In the world of dentistry, there are many choices of restorative materials that can be used, one of them is composite resin. Along with the development of technology, the researchers succeeded in developing a new composite resin called Bulk-Fill. One example is Giomer Bulk-Fill composite resin which has various properties such as mechanical, physical and biological properties. However, there is no research on Giomer Bulk-Fill composite resin which specifically tests the value of diametral tensile strength which is one of the mechanical properties of restorative material.
Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of immersion time and the difference in pH value 7; 5,5; and 4,5 of the artificial saliva solution on the value of diametral tensile strength of Giomer Bulk-Fill composite resin.
Method: Laboratory experimental research using 90 solid cylindrical specimens with a diameter of 6 mm and a height of 3 mm which were tested using Universal Testing Machine (Shimadzu AGS-X 5kN, Japan) and were divided into 3 groups pH of artificial saliva solution (7; 5.5; and 4.5) and 3 groups of immersion periods (1, 24 and 72 hours).
Results: The test results using the One-way ANOVA test showed significant differences in the specimens used (p <0.05). In the group of specimens which were immersed in artificial saliva solution with pH 7, the results of the average diametral tensile strength at immersion for 1 hour were 36.7 ± 2.7 MPa. Then it decreased for 24 hours immersed time with a mean value of diametral tensile strength of 35.2 ± 2.2 and increased again at 72 hours immersed time with an average value of diametral tensile strength 40.1 ± 3.6 MPa. In the group of specimens which were immersed in artificial saliva solution with pH 4.5, at immersion for 1 hour the average value of diametral tensile strength was 33.6 ± 2.4 MPa. Then in 24-hour and 72-hour immersion, it increased to 42.6 ± 2 MPa and 44.2 ± 2.8 MPa. In the group of specimens immersed in artificial saliva solution with a pH of 5.5, the average value of diametral tensile strength for 1 hour was 34 ± 2.4 MPa. However, there was a difference when compared to the pH 4.5 group, which was in the group with a pH of 5.5 in the 24-hour immersion period, the value increase for 44.7 ± 2.8 MPa and then decreased for 72 hours of immersion with an average value of 39 ± 3.3 MPa.
Conclusion: The value of diametral tensile strength of Giomer Bulk-Fill composite resin is not affected by pH of artificial saliva 4.5; 5.5; and 7 that used in this study. The value of diametral tensile strength of Giomer Bulk-Fill composite resin, which is immersed for 1, 24, and 72 hours in artificial saliva with pH 4.5; 5.5 and 7 generally increased so that the immersion time in this study affected the diametral tensile strength of Giomer Bulk-Fill composite resin.

"Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh perendaman dalam obat kumur tanpa dan mengandung alkohol terhadap transverse strength resin akrilik polimerisasi panas. Spesimen berupa lempeng direndam di dalam obat kumur mengandung alkohol, tanpa alkohol, atau akuades selama 12, 24, dan 36 jam. Transverse strength diperoleh dengan menggunakan metode three point bending. Uji statistik menyatakan tidak ada perbedaan transverse strength yang bermakna antara spesimen yang direndam di dalam larutan perendam untuk setiap waktu perendaman maupun antar waktu untuk setiap larutan perendam. Penggunaan obat kumur tanpa dan mengandung alkohol tidak menurunkan transverse strength basis gigi tiruan resin akrilik polimerisasi panas.

The aim of this study was to know the effect of immersion in alcoholic and non alcoholic mouthwash on transverse strength of heat cured acrylic resin. Specimen plates were immersed in alcoholic mouthwash, non alcoholic mouthwash or aquadest for 12, 24, and 36 hours. Transverse strength was measured using universal testing machine. Result showed that there was no statistically difference among the transverse strength of specimens either between immersion solution for each immersion time or between immersion time for each solution. The use of either alcoholic or non alcoholic mouthwash will not decrease the transverse strength of heat cured acrylic resin denture base."

"Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh lama perendaman dalam saliva buatan terhadap perubahan pH-nya dan kekasaran permukaan resin komposit Giomer Bulk-Fill. Jumlah spesimen 63 buah dibagi dalam sembilan kelompok perlakuan yaitu perendaman dalam saliva buatan pH 7; 5,5; dan 4,5 selama masing-masing 1 jam, 24 jam, dan 72 jam pada suhu 370C. Perubahan pH saliva buatan diukur menggunakan pH meter dan pengujian kekasaran permukaan spesimen menggunakan surface roughness tester. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang bermakna pada setiap kelompok perlakuan.

This study aimed to determine the effect of immersion time on artificial saliva pH changes and surface roughness of Giomer Bulk Fill composite resin. Sixty three specimens were divided into nine groups with immersion in artificial saliva pH 7, 5.5, and 4.5 for 1 hour, 24 hours, and 72 hours at 370C respectively. The changes in artificial saliva pH were measured using a pH meter and the surface roughness measured using surface roughness tester. The results showed that there were significant differences between each groups."
