"Peran pasta gigi herbal dengan pasta gigi konvensional terhadap kontrol gingivitis pada pasien ortodonti dengan alat cekat. Perawatan ortodonti dengan alat cekat bertujuan untuk perbaikan estetik dan fungsi mastikasi dan bicara pasien. Komponen pada alat cekat seperti bands, brackets, dan ligatures di dalam mulut dapat meningkatkan jumlah plak sebagai etiologi utama gingivitis. Tujuan: Penelitian randomisasi klinis-double blind ini dirancang untuk meneliti efektivitas pasta gigi herbal terhadap gingivitis dibandingkan dengan pasta gigi konvensional pada pasien ortodonti dengan alat cekat. Metode: Enam belas subjek yang akan menggunakan alat ortodonti cekat dipilih berdasarkan kriteria inklusi kemudian diacak dengan menggunakan metode blok randomisasi sehingga terbagi dalam kelompok tes dan kelompok kontrol. Pemeriksaan indeks gingiva Loe dan Sillness dilakukan di awal sebelum bonding brackets dan dua minggu setelahnya. Uji statistik parametrik t-berpasangan digunakan untuk membandingkan perbedaan dalam tiap kelompok dan uji t-tidak berpasangan untuk membandingkan perbedaan antar kelompok antara sebelum dan sesudah perlakuan. Hasil: terdapat kecenderungan penurunan indeks gingiva namun tidak terdapat perbedaan yang bermakna antara sebelum dan sesudah aplikasi alat ortodonti cekat pada kelompok pasta gigi herbal. Terdapat kecenderungan peningkatan indeks gingiva dan terdapat perbedaan yang bermakna antara sebelum dan sesudah aplikasi alat cekat pada kelompok pasta gigi konvensional. Terdapat perbedaan yang bermakna antara kedua kelompok. Simpulan: Terdapat perbedaan bermakna pada kedua pasta gigi, pasta gigi herbal menunjukkan efektivitasnya terhadap kontrol gingivitis setelah aplikasi alat ortodonti cekat sehingga dapat dijadikan alternatif pasta gigi berbasis alami dalam mengatasi gingivitis pada pasien ortodonti dengan alat cekat.

Orthodontic treatment with fixed appliance aims to improve esthetics and function of mastication and speech, however the components on a fixed appliance as bands, brackets and ligatures may increase the amount of plaque as the primary etiology of gingivitis. Objective: A double-blind study of randomized clinical trial was designed to investigate the effectiveness of herbal toothpaste against gingivitis as compared with conventional toothpaste in orthodontic patient with fixed appliance. Methods: Sixteen subjects before the application of fixed orthodontic appliance was selected based on inclusion chriteria. They were then randomized using block randomization method and divided into the test group and the control group. Gingival index of Loe and Sillness examined before brackets bonding and two weeks after. Paired t-test was used to compare the differences within the groups and unpaired t-test was used to compare the differences between groups at baseline and two weeks after. Results: There was a tendency of decreasing in gingival index but there were no significant differences between before and after the application of fixed appliance in the herbal toothpaste group. There was a tendency of increasing in gingival index and there were significants differences between before and after the application of fixed appliance in the conventional toothpaste group. There was significant difference between the two group. Conclusion: There was significant difference between the two groups, herbal indicates effectiveness in gingival control after the application of fixed orthodontic appliance, so it could be used as an alternative natural based toothpaste in overcoming gingivitis in orthodontic patients with fixed appliance."

"Efektivitas pasta gigi herbal dan non-herbal dalam mengurangi akumulasi plak. Mengingat pentingnya menjaga kebersihan mulut pada pasien ortodonti dengan alat cekat dan seiring dengan meningkatnya minat masyarakat akan bahan herbal, pasta gigi herbal pun dikembangkan. Namun, efektivitas pasta gigi tersebut terhadap akumulasi plak masih diperdebatkan. Tujuan: Mengetahui perbedaan efektivitas pasta gigi herbal dengan pasta gigi non-herbal. Metode: Penelitian uji klinis randomisasi, buta ganda ini diikuti oleh 16 subyek penelitian berusia 15-35 tahun yang akan menggunakan alat ortodonti cekat. Enam belas subyek tersebut dibagi menjadi dua kelompok sesuai dengan pasta gigi yang akan mereka gunakan dan diukur akumulasi plaknya dengan indeks plak Löe dan Sillness pada gigi Ramfjord sebelum dilakukan bonding braket dan dua minggu setelah bonding braket. Hasil: Uji kemaknaan Wilcoxon menunjukkan tidak terdapatnya penurunan indeks plak yang bermakna baik yang terjadi pada penggunaan pasta gigi herbal, maupun peningkatan indeks plak yang bermakna yang terjadi pada penggunaan pasta gigi non-herbal. Hasil uji Mann-Whitney pun menunjukkan tidak terdapatnya perbedaan yang bermakna antara efektivitas pasta gigi herbal dan pasta gigi non herbal. Simpulan: Tidak terdapat perbedaan akumulasi plak yang bermakna antara sebelum dan setelah pemakaian pasta gigi herbal ataupun pasta gigi nonherbal. Serta tidak terdapat perbedaan efektivitas yang bermakna secara statistik antara kedua pasta gigi tersebut pada pasien ortodonti dengan alat cekat.

Maintaining good oral hygiene in orthodontic patients is important and as the community interest in herbal ingredients increases, herbal toothpaste was developed. Its effectiveness against dental plaque accumulation is still under debate. Herbal toothpaste has not been tested in fixed orthodontic patients. Objective: To study the effectivenes differences between herbal toothpaste and non-herbal toothpaste. Methods: This randomized, double blind clinical trial was participated by 16 subjects aged range 15-35 years who were planned for fixed orthodontic. The subjects were divided into two groups based on the type of toothpaste used. Plaque accumulations were measured according to Löe and Sillness plaque index on Ramfjord teeth before and two weeks after bonding. Results: Wilcoxon test result showed there was no significant reduction of plaque index on herbal toothpaste
usage nor significant increase on non-herbal toothpaste usage. Mann-Whitney test showed no significant differences between herbal and non-herbal toothpaste. Conclusion: There was no significant differences in plaque acummulation between usage of herbal toothpaste nor usage of non-herbal toothpaste. There was no significant effectiveness differences between those toothpastes in fixed orthodontic patients, although herbal toothpaste usage showed a reduction of plaque index, whereas non-herbal toothpaste usage showed an increase of plaque index."

"Latar Belakang: Gingivitis merupakan penyakit periodontal dengan prevalensi paling tinggi di Indonesia. Penyebab utama terjadinya gingivitis adalah akumulasi plak dan tingkat kebersihan rongga mulut yang rendah. Manifestasi klinis gingivitis dapat berupa eritema, edema, perdarahan, dan ulserasi pada gingiva tanpa disertai adanya kehilangan perlekatan periodontal. Secara mikroskopis, ditemukan perubahan flora normal dan infeksi bakteri nonspesifik pada gingivitis. Kerusakan jaringan pada gingivitis bersifat reversibledengan adanya penghilangan plak dan peningkatan kebersihan rongga mulut. Mekanisme penghilangan plak dapat dilakukan secara mekanis dan kimiawi. Cara mekanis seperti scalingdan menyikat gigi merupakan metode utama penghilangan plak. Metode kimiawi seperti penggunaan obat kumur yang mengandung bahan aktif merupakan terapi tambahan yang efektif, terutama dalam membersihkan area di rongga mulut yang tidak terjangkau oleh pembersihan secara mekanis. Propolis merupakan salah satu bahan alami di bidang kesehatan yang memiliki sifat antiplak dan antibakteri. Obat kumur propolis dinilai memberikan efek terhadap plak dan gingivitis secara klinis serta jumlah koloni bakteri nonspesifik pada plak. Tujuan: Mengetahui efek obat kumur yang mengandung propolis terhadap plak dan gingivitis secara klinisserta jumlah koloni bakteri nonspesifik pada plak.
Metode: Penelitian ini dilakukan menggunakan metode eksperimental klinis. Sebanyak 20 orang sukarelawan gingivitis berusia 18-30 tahun berpartisipasi dalam penelitian ini. Subjek dibagi menjadi kelompok uji dan kelompok kontrol dengan pembagian 10 orang kelompok uji berkumur dengan obat kumur propolis dan 10 orang kelompok kontrol berkumur dengan obat kumur tanpa bahan aktif. Pada awal penelitian, dilakukan scaling, penyuluhan, pengukuran awal PI dan PBI, serta pengambilan sampel plak untuk penghitungan jumlah koloni bakteri. Setelah berkumur selama 14 hari, dilakukan kembali pengukuran PI dan PBI serta pengambilan sampel plak untuk penghitungan jumlah koloni bakteri.
Hasil: Hasil penilaian statistik menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan bermakna rata-rata penurunan PBI antara kelompok uji dan kelompok kontrol. (sig< 0,05 , selisih RPBI= 0.3724). Rata-rata penurunan PI kelompok uji lebih besar dibandingkan kelompok kontrol (selisih RPI= 0.3665), begitu juga dengan rata-rata penurunan jumlah koloni bakteri aerob dan anaerob (selisih RAerob = 90.6 , selisih RAnaerob= 40) walaupun tidak bermakna secara statistik (sig> 0,05).
Kesimpulan: Berkumur dengan obat kumur propolis efektif terhadap perdarahan papilla dibandingkan dengan berkumur dengan obat kumur tanpa aktif. Berkumur dengan obat kumur propolis dapat menurunkan rata-rata PI serta rata-rata jumlah koloni bakteri aerob dan anaerob pada plak, walaupun tidak bermakna secara statistik.

Background: Gingivitis has the highest prevalence among the other periodontal diseases in Indonesia. The main causes of gingivitis are dental plaque accumulation and low oral hygiene level in patients. Clinically, gingivitis could appear as edema, bleeding, and ulceration without any loss of attachment. There are shifting of normal floras and certain periodontal pathogens found in gingivitis microscopically. Tissue damage in gingivitis is reversible with the presence of adequate plaque removal and an increase in patientsoral hygiene level. Dental plaque removal could be done mechanically and chemically. The mechanical methods like toothbrushing and scaling are the main method, whereas the use of chemical like mouthwash is an adjunctive therapy which shows efficacy. The use of mouthwash with active ingredients could cleanse area in the mouth that could not be reached through mechanical methods. Propolis is one of the natural ingredients commonly studied and used in dentistry because of the antibacterial and antiplaque effects it has. Propolis containing mouthwash could give effects on dental plaque and gingivitis clinically, along with the total count of nonspecific bacteria present in dental plaque.
Objectives: To assess the effect of propolis containing mouthwash on dental plaque and gingivitis clinically along with the total count of nonspecific bacteria present in dental plaque.Methods:This study is completed using clinical experimental method. There are 20 volunteers with age interval 18-30 years old who participated in this research. Twenty subjects are divided into two groups with the same numbers, which is 10 subjects each groups. The first group is the test group which use propolis containing mouthwash, whereas the other one is placebo group which use mouthwash without any active ingredients. Scaling, dental health education, measurement of plaque index and papillary bleeding index, and plaque sample collection for bacteria assessment were done in the beginning of this study. After using mouthwash for 14 days, there were second measurement of plaque index and papillary bleeding index along with plaque sample collection for bacteria assessment.
Results: Statistic showed there is significant difference (sig< 0.05, mean differences = 0.3724) of papillary bleeding index among the two groups. Mean score of plaque index in the test group showed greater reduction than the placebo group (mean differences = 0.3665) and nean score of total bacteria count in the test group showed higher reduction than the placebo group (mean differences of aerob bacteria = 90.6 , mean differences of anaerob bacteria = 40) though there werent any significant difference present statistically (sig>0.05).
Conclusion: The use of propolis containing mouthwash showed better effect on papillary bleeding index compared to the use of mouthwash without any active ingredients. The use of propolis containing mouthwash could reduce mean scores of plaque index and the numbers of aerob and anaerob bacteria present in dental plaque, though there werent any statistical significance shown.

"This analytical epidemiological survey was aimed to investigate the correlation between oral hygiene and the onset of an infectious, necrotic, ulcerative disease called acute necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis (ANUG). The study involved 319 elementary school children consisting of 163 (52%) male and 156 (48) female pupils from Kecamatan Pacet, Cianjur, West Jawa. Samples were chosen by stratified simple random sampling. The obtained data were analyzed with Bivariant Test (Chi2Ttest), and the results showed a quite high prevalence of ANUG, about 15.3% in total and consisting of 9% male and 6.3% female subjects. The correlation between oral hygiene and the onset of ANUG was found to be significant (p<0.05). It was concluded that oral hygiene has an important contribution to the onset of ANUG."

"Latar Belakang: Penyebab utama gingivitis adalah akumulasi plak berisi mikroorganisme yang melekat kuat pada permukaan gigi dan tidak bisa hilang dengan dibilas. Oleh karena itu, perlu bantuan mekanis yaitu menyikat gigi dengan pasta gigi dan kimiawi yaitu berkumur dengan obat kumur untuk eliminasi plak. Penambahan bahan alami seperti propolis dalam pasta gigi dan obat kumur diharapkan efektif terhadap penyakit periodontal karena ada sifat antibakteri dan antiinflamasi. Tujuan: Menganalisis efek obat kumur dan pasta gigi propolis UI terhadap indeks plak, perdarahan papila, gingiva, dan koloni bakteri aerob dan anaerob serta membandingkannya dengan penggunaan pasta gigi dan obat kumur nonpropolis. Metode: Penelitian ini terdiri dari 18 subjek yang diinstruksikan untuk menyikat gigi dua kali sehari dan berkumur setelah sikat gigi menggunakan pasta gigi dan obat kumur yang ditentukan selama 14 hari. Pemeriksaan subjek dilakukan sebelum dan sesudah penggunaan pasta gigi dan obat kumur dengan mengevaluasi indeks plak, perdarahan papila, dan gingiva. Sampel plak diambil dari permukaan bukal gigi insisif atas sebelum dan sesudah perlakukan untuk dievaluasi kuantitas bakteri aerob dan anaerob. Data kemudian dianalisis secara statistik menggunakan uji Paired t-test, Wilcoxon, Independent T-test, atau Mann Whitney. Hasil: Terdapat perbedaan bermakna sebelum dan sesudah penggunaan obat kumur dan pasta gigi propolis terhadap indeks perdarahan papila (p = 0,007) dan jumlah bakteri anaerob (p = 0,028). Namun, tidak terdapat perbedaan bermakna terhadap indeks plak, gingiva, dan jumlah bakteri aerob (p≥0,05). Kesimpulan: Pasta gigi dan obat kumur propolis UI memiliki efek dalam mencegah dan menyembuhkan gingivitis sehingga dapat digunakan sebagai bahan aktif dalam obat kumur dan pasta gigi.
Backgrounds: The main cause of gingivitis is the accumulation of plaque containing microorganisms which stays on the teeth surface and cannot be rinsed off. Therefore, mechanical cleaning like toothbrushing with toothpastes and chemical cleaning using mouthwashes are needed for plaque elimination. The addition of natural products which is propolis in toothpastes and mouthwashes is expected to have an effect towards periodontal disease because of its antibacterial and antiinflamation properties. Aim: to analyze the effect of mouthwashes and toothpastes containing propolis on plaque index (PI), papilary bleeding index (PBI), gingival index (GI), and colony of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria compare to the use of nonpropolis toothpastes and mouthwashes. Methods: Eighteen subjects were used in this study. Subjects were asked to brush their teeth twice a day and followed by gargling using propolis or nonpropolis toothpastes and mouthwashes for 14 days. The patients were examined before and after using toothpastes and mouthwashes to evaluate plaque index (PI), papilary bleeding index (PBI), and gingival index (GI). Plaque samples were collected from buccal surface upper incisors before and after using toothpastes and mouthwashes for aerobic and anaerobic bacterial counts. Data collected were analyzed statistically using Paired t-test or Wilcoxon and Independent T-test or Mann Whitney. Results: There was statistically difference between before and after in papilary bleeding index (p = 0.007) and anaerobic bacteria counts (p =0.028). Meanwhile, there were no statistically difference on plaque index, gingival index, and aerobic bacteria counts. (p≥0,05). Conclusion: The use of propolis toothpastes and mouthwashes at the same time have an effect against gingivitis so it can be used as an active property in toothpastes and mouthwashes."

"In Dental health community programmes there are several kind of efficiency application patron such as in dental health programme worthy to do, like comparing various alternatives procedures in a dental health programmes. Cost effectiveness analysis (CEA) is becoming increasingly popular as society moved toward rationalizing dental health cost to optimalized programmes. CEA compares the cost of procedure with its effectiveness, thus helping an administrator to judge wether the procedur is worth its cost. CEA also permit comparison of various interventions that result in a similar dental health outcome. A major benefit of CEA is that it forces decision maker to confront the trade-offs implicit in all decision regarding alternative approaches. Caries dentist and gingivitis are still a serious oral health problem to solve especially for primary school student. Curative effort is relative more expansive, so it was chosen alternative for preventing caries must be together with preventing gingivitis. The purpose of the research is getting the cost effective model of preventive caries and gingivitis for a primary school student at DKI Jakarta. The opportunity cost of alternative model preventive caries and gingvitis intervention such a modern dentistry approach (Fissure Scalant and Oral hygiene Instruction procedures by the dentist) to compare against model rutinne intervention approach (flouride mouthrinsing and ART procedures by the full time dentist or by the dentist together with teachers) along with the relative effectiveness of preventive treatment. In this quasi experimental research with multistage randomized designed we use responden of all primary school student in DKI Jakarta for two different treatment group. Fissure Sealant and Oral hygiene Instruction procedures by the Dentist were judge to be more cost effective than flouride mouthrinsing and ART procedures by the dentist together with teachers or by the full time dentist."

Indeks plak (PlI) dan Papilla Bleeding Index (PBI) diukur sebelum dan setelah berkumur, dua kali sehari selama empat hari. Nilai PlI dan PBI pada kedua kelompok setelah berkumur lebih rendah daripada saat sebelum berkumur, secara statistik bermakna (uji T berpasangan; p<0,05). Nilai PlI dan PBI pada kelompok temulawak memiliki perbedaan yang bermakna dengan kelompok plasebo (uji T tidak berpasangan; p<0,05). Berkumur dengan obat kumur yang mengandung temulawak (Curcuma xanthorrhiza) dapat menurunkan gingivitis.

The aim of this clinical experimental study is to analyze the effect of extract temulawak towards gingivitis clinically. Sixty patients gingivitis divided into two groups: rinsed using temulawak and placebo. Plaque index (PlI) and Papilla Bleeding Index (PBI) were measured before and after rinsing, twice a day for four days. The PlI and PBI score after rinsing in both groups were lower than before rinsing(paired T test; p<0,05). The follow up PlI and PBI score of control group were different significantly with the experiment group (independent T test; p<0,05). Rinsing with temulawak (Curcuma xanthorrhiza) mouthwash can reduce gingivitis."

"Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui efek obat kumur mengandung ekstrak daun teh hijau terhadap penyembuhan keradangan gingiva secara klinis. 60 penderita gingivitis dibagi menjadi dua kelompok, kelompok eksperimen dan kontrol. Berkumur dilakukan dua kali sehari selama empat hari. Pengukuran Indeks Plak (PlI) dan Indeks Papilla-Bleeding (PBI) dilakukan pada hari nol dan hari lima. Data dianalisis menggunakan uji Paired dan Independent T-Test. Terdapat penurunan PlI dan PBI yang bermakna (p<0,05) setelah berkumur pada kedua kelompok dan terdapat perbedaan bermakna (p<0,05) antara kelompok pada penurunan PlI dan PBI. Dengan demikian, obat kumur mengandung ekstrak daun teh hijau mampu menurunkan keradangan gingiva.

The purpose of this research is to know the effect of mouthwash containing green tea leaves extract towards gingivitis healing clinically. 60 subjects suffering gingivitis were divided into two groups, the experimental group and control group. Rinsing was done twice a day for four days. Plaque Index (PlI) and Papilla-Bleeding Index (PBI) were measured on day zero and day fifth. Data were analyzed using Paired and Independent T-Test. There was a significant reduction (p<0,05) of PlI and PBI post-rinsing within both group and there was significant difference (p<0,05) between the groups on PlI and PBI reduction. Mouthwash containing green tea leaves extract is able to decrease gingival inflammation."

"Zinc Zn merupakan mineral yang terkandung dalam salah satu enzim alkaline phosphatase dalam cairan krevikular gingiva. Volume cairan krevikular gingiva ini diketahui berhubungan berat dengan gingivitis. Gingivitis pada anak disebabkan oleh akumulasi plak dan bakteri. Plak merupakan lapisan di permukaan gigi yang mengandung bakteri. Bakteri Streptococcus mutans S. mutans paling banyak ditemukan di plak dan berkoloni pada permukaan gigi. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui hubungan kadar Zn dalam cairan krevikular gingiva dengan terjadinya gingivitis dan pertumbuhan koloni S. mutans pada anak di wilayah DKI Jakarta. Subyek penelitian berusia 12-14 tahun, sebanyak 30 anak. Sampel penelitian berupa kadar Zn yang terdapat di dalam cairan krevikular gingiva. Kadar Zn diukur dengan menggunakan metode spektofotometri serapan atom. Terdapat hubungan lemah dan tidak bermakna dengan arah korelasi positif antara kadar Zn dalam cairan krevikular gingiva dengan terjadinya gingivitis.

Zinc Zn is a mineral that is contained in one of the enzyme alkaline phosphatase in gingival crevicular fluid. The volume of gingival crevicular fluid are considered to have a relationship with gingivitis. Gingivitis in children is caused by the accumulation of plaque and bacteria. Plaque is a layer on the surface of the tooth that contains bacteria. Streptococcus mutans S. mutans is the most commonly found on plaque and colonize on the tooth surfaces. This research was conducted to determine relationship Zn levels in gingival crevicular fluid to gingivitis and S. Mutans colony growth in children. Subjects aged 12 14 years old, 30 children. Zn levels were measured using atomic absorption spectrophotometry method. There is weak and no significant relationship with positive correlation between Zn levels in gingival crevicular fluid and gingivitis p.

"Latar Belakang: Sindroma Down merupakan kelainan genetik yang disebabkan oleh terjadinya trisomi pada kromosom 21.  Penyandang sindroma Down memiliki karakteristik fisik dan kondisi sistemik tertentu. Hal ini berhubungan dengan kondisi rongga mulutnya, terutama jaringan periodontal (gingiva) serta kebersihan gigi dan mulut. Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui distribusi frekuensi gingivitis dan OHIS (Oral Hygiene Index-Simplified) pada penyandang sindroma Down usia 14 tahun ke atas di SLB tipe C di Jakarta. Metode: Penelitian ini merupakan studi deskriptif potong lintang. Subjek penelitian adalah 174 penyandang sindroma Down usia 14 tahun ke atas yang bersekolah di SLB tipe C di Jakarta. Gingivitis diukur menggunakan Indeks Gingiva oleh Loe dan Sillness, sementara kebersihan gigi dan mulut diukur menggunakan OHIS oleh Greene dan Vermillon. Hasil: Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan distribusi frekuensi gingivitis sebagai berikut; 3,45% bebas gingivitis, 47,13% gingivitis ringan, 40,80% gingivitis sedang, dan 8,63% gingivitis berat. Sementara, untuk distribusi frekuensi OHIS adalah sebagai berikut; 28,16% memiliki OHIS baik, 49,43% memiliki OHIS sedang, dan 22,41% memiliki OHIS buruk. Kesimpulan: Penyandang sindroma Down memiliki distribusi frekuensi gingivitis yang dominan pada gingivitis ringan dan sedang, sementara mayoritas memiliki OHIS sedang.

Background: Down syndrome is a genetic disorder caused by trisomy in chromosome 21. Individuals with Down syndrome have specific physical characteristics and systemic conditions. This may relate to their oral condition, such as periodontal tissues (gingiva) as well as their oral hygiene. Objective: The aim of this study is to know the frequency distribution of gingivitis and OHIS (Oral Hygiene Index-Simplified) in 174 individuals with Down syndrome aged 14 and above in SLB type C in Jakarta. Method: This study used a cross-sectional descriptive method. Research subjects were 174 individuals with Down syndrome aged 14 and above who went to school in SLB type C in Jakarta. Gingivitis was measured using Gingival Index by Loe and Sillness, while oral hygiene was measured using OHIS by Greene and Vermillon. Result: The result of this study showed a frequency distribution of gingivitis as follows; 3.45% were free of gingivitis, 47.13% had mild gingivitis, 40.80% had moderate gingivitis, and 8.63% had severe gingivitis. Frequency distribution of OHIS were as follows; 28.16% had good OHIS, 49.43% had fair OHIS, and 22.41% had poor OHIS. Conclusion: Individuals with Down syndrome had frequency distribution of gingivitis mainly in mild and moderate category, while the majority the subjects had fair OHIS.
