Penelitian ini ditujukan untuk melihat keadaan para tokoh ibu yang berperan sebagai orang
tua tunggal di dalam novel For One More Day karya Mitch Albom (2006). Fokus dari
jurnal ini adalah untuk melihat bagaimana stereotip terhadap ibu tunggal khususnya d
wilayah Amerika Serikat sebagai latar novel tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan dua teori,
yaitu teori Kate Millet tentang aspek pratiarki dalam tulisannya yang the Theory of Sexual
Politics dan teori representasi oleh Stuart Hall. Ditemukan bahwa ibu yang berperan
sebagai orang tua tunggal mengalami diskriminasi hampir di seluruh aspek patriarki. Hasil
penelitian ini berkontribusi dalam analisis terhadap ibu tunggal dalam karya sastra dan isu
perempuan pada umumnya untuk memahami mengapa isu ini terus berulang dari satu masa
ke masa berikutnya, kompleksitas, dan menjadi masalah yang nyata dalam masyarakat ABSTRACT This project is directed towards an exploration of single mothers in the novel For One

States are represented in the novel is the focus of this study. Kate Millet‟s aspects of
patriarchy and Stuart Hall‟s the Theory of Representation are the frameworks of this study.
The findings of the study show that single mothers are discriminated almost in every aspect
of patriarchy. This study contributes to the literary works analysis on representation of
single mothers and women in general to understand why these issues are repeated time to
