"Penelitian ini membahas latar tempat yaitu sekolah sebagai latar yang sering digunakan dalam novel-novel yang diadaptasi dari Wattpad. Data yang digunakan adalah novel adaptasi Wattpad, yaitu novel Mariposa (2018) karya Luluk HF, Matt dan Mou (2016) karya Wulanfadi, dan Senior (2018) karya Kata Kokoh. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif analitik yang bertujuan untuk memaparkan fungsi latar sekolah dalam ketiga novel. Selain itu, penelitian ini juga membahas tanggapan pembaca yang sebagian besar adalah remaja dalam hubungannya dengan kepopuleran novel-novel adaptasi Wattpad. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa latar sekolah berfungsi untuk mengakrabkan novel tersebut dengan kehidupan remaja sehingga menjadi latar yang sering digunakan dalam novel-novel Wattpad. Hal ini juga tampak dari tanggapan-tanggapan pembaca terhadap persoalan remaja yang diangkat dalam ketiga novel. Tanggapan tersebut membuktikan bahwa remaja memiliki pemahaman yang sama dalam menyikapi kehidupan sekolah dengan kehidupan sekolah yang diangkat.

This study discusses school as a setting that is often used in novels adapted from Wattpad. The novel used in this study are from Wattpad adaptation, Mariposa by Luluk HF, Matt and Mou by Wulanfadi, and Senior by Kata Kokoh. This study uses a descriptive analytical method that aims to describe the characteristics of the school setting in all three novels. In addition, this study also discusses the readers responses in relation to the popularity of Wattpad's adaptation novels with school setting. The results of this study indicate that the school setting is closely related to adolescent life so it becomes a setting that is often used in Wattpad novels. This is also supported by readers responses to the problems of adolescents that raised in the three novels. The response proves that readers who are none other than adolescents have the same understanding of the school life that is raised in three novels."

"Skripsi ini bertujuan untuk menelusuri pembentukan tempat oleh penulis cerita untuk hadir sebagai karakter melalui signifikansinya terhadap plot. Suatu tempat di narasi pada dasarnya dibentuk oleh penulis cerita, tetapi kehadirannya cenderung diposisikan sebagai pelengkap. Dengan melepas tempat dari definisinya sebagai latar, terdapat potensi untuk mereposisinya dari sekadar latar menjadi karakter melalui pemaknaannya terhadap cerita yang ada. Skripsi ini akan mengkaji tempat pada cerita fiksi untuk melihat bagaimana penulis cerita membentuknya sebagai karakter melalui basis teori narrative, place, character, serta pemaknaan tempat melalui critical worldbuilding. Melalui studi kasus, ditemukan bahwa interelasi antara tempat dengan elemen lain pada cerita akan membentuk suatu tempat yang terikat secara kausal, menjadikannya khas terhadap cerita serta turut berkembang seiring jalannya cerita. Keterikatannya dengan elemen lain pada cerita membuat kehadiran tempat menjadi signifikan terhadap plot yang ada, untuk kemudian mereposisinya sebagai karakter pada cerita tersebut.

This thesis aims to explore the construction of place by a story author to be positioned as a character through its significance to the plot. A place in a narrative is shaped by the author, but the presence of a place tends to be positioned as a complement. By detaching place from its definition of setting, there is a potential to reposition it from a mere setting element to a character through its meaning to the story. This thesis will examine a place in a fictional story to see how the story author shape it as a character through the basis of narrative theory, place, character, as well as the construction of meaning in fictional places through critical worldbuilding. The study reveals that the interrelation between place and other elements in the story will form a place that is causally tied, making it particular to the story and dynamic as the story progresses. The interrelatedness with other elements of the story makes the place significant to the plot, therefore repositions it as a character of the story."
