ABSTRAK
Terjemahan beranotasi adalah terjemahan yang disertai dengan catatan yang berisi tentang diskusi permasalahan penerjemahan serta solusinya. Anotasi tidak hanya membahas permasalahan pernerjemahan dari segi linguistik tetapi juga dari segi sosial-budaya. Tujuan terjemahan beranotasi adalah memberikan pertanggungjawaban padanan yang dipilih pada penerjemahan mandiri yang dilakukan oleh penerjemah. Terjemahan anotasi ini akan membahas penerjemahan novel Under the Dragon: Travels in a Betrayed Land, karya Rory Maclean. Novel ini dipilih berdasarkan ketertarikan penerjemah pada cerita yang merupakan kisah nyata dan berisi kekayaan budaya. Metafora dan adegan percintaan dalam teks menjadi tantangan dalam menerjemahkan. Dalam menerjemahkan, penerjemah berusaha sedemikian rupa untuk mengalihkan pesan bukan bentuk. Metode yang digunakan dalam menerjemahkan adalah metode komunikatif. Metode ini dipilih dengan tujuan agar pesan tersampaikan dengan baik. Ada lima permasalahan utama yang dibahas dalam bagian anotasi: istilah asing, satuan ukuran, metafora, kalimat dan ungkapan. Beberapa teknik penerjemahan diterapkan untuk mengatasi permasalahan pemadanan. Dari analisis dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerjemahan bukanlah pekerjaan yang mudah karena tidak ada bahasa dan kebudayaan yang sama persis. Namun, penerjemahan bukanlah hal yang mustahil. Penerjemah harus menggali berbagai informasi dan mendapatkan ide kreatif dalam menemukan solusi berbagai permasalah penerjemahan yang is hadapi.

ABSTRACT
Annotated translation is a translation with annotation on discussion of problems in translation and their solutions. Not only problems in linguistics but also in socio-cultural are discussed in the annotation. The purpose of this annotated translation is to provide responsibility of the equivalent words chosen for the independent translation done. This annotated translation will discuss the translation of novel: Under The Dragon: Travels in a Betrayed Land, by Rory Maclean. The reason in choosing this novel is derived from the translator's interest in a story based on reality and culture heritage. Metaphors and the love scenes challenge the translator to render than. When translating, the translator gives such effort to transfer meaning. The method used in the translation is communicative. The purpose of using this method is to convey the message in the text well. There are five problems discussed in the annotation: metaphors, foreign words, measurement, sentences and expression. From the analysis, it is concluded that translation is not a simple work because there are no languages and cultures that are similar in this world. However, translating is not impossible, there are- a lot of methods and techniques that can be chosen when translating. Translator should also dig as much information as possible and be creative to find solution of the problems he/she faces in translating the source text.

Penelitian terjemahan beranotasi ini menjelaskan pertanggungjawaban penerjemah atas pilihan padanan. Sumber data penelitian adalah buku nonfiksi the Soul of the Indian karya Charles Alexander Eastman. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi permasalahan yang dihadapi dalam melakukan penerjemahan dan menemukan solusi terbaik untuk mengatasinya. Data penelitian ini adalah masalah yang ditemukan dan dikelompokkan sesuai kategori anotasinya. Metode penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan model teoretis penerjemahan berupa analisis komparatif. Temuan penelitian mencakup dua hal utama. Pertama, dari 27 data anotasi yang dikumpulkan, terdapat 8 data anotasi nama atau sebutan untuk Tuhan atau Deitas, 1 nama seremoni, 1 sebutan untuk tokoh spiritual, 1 nama praktik spiritual, 4 majas, 9 istilah khusus, dan 3 kolokasi. Terdapat 8 macam prosedur penerjemahan; prosedur yang mengombinasikan dua prosedur atau lebih (kuplet, triplet, kuartet) adalah yang paling dominan. Kedua, kesulitan yang dihadapi terkait dengan masalah penerjemahan diatasi dengan menerapkan teori, metode dan prosedur penerjemahan relevan. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa spiritualisme bangsa Indian dan budaya masyarakatnya saling terkait satu sama lain sehingga data anotasi yang ditemukan tidak hanya bersifat spiritual, tetapi juga kultural. Oleh karena itu, penerjemah harus memiliki pengetahuan dan wawasan yang luas mengenai spiritualisme dan budaya masyarakat bahasa sumber dan bahasa sasaran.

This is an annotated translation research which explains the researcher’s accountability with regard to the translation equivalents being chosen. The data source in this research is a nonfiction book T he Soul of the Indian by Charles Alexander Eastman. This study aims at identifying the problems encountered by the researcher in the course of translating the source texts and seeking the best solution to solve them. The data of this study are the problems collected and classified according to their annotation categories. The qualitative method has been employed using a comparative analysis translation model. The findings of this research reveal two important things. First, out of 27 elements of annotation data collected, 8 are names or designations for a God or Deity, 1 is the name for ceremony, 1 is a designation for a spiritual figure, 1 is a name of a spiritual practice, 4 are figures of speech, 9 are specific terminologies, and 3 are collocations. There are 8 translation procedures being employed, with combined procedures being the dominant ones (couplets, triplets, quadruplets). Second, the difficulties encountered in dealing with the problems are solved by employing relevant translation theories, methods, and procedures. Such findings demonstrate that Indian spiritualism and culture are interrelated so that the annotation data obtained are not only spiritual in nature, but also cultural. Thus, a translator should be well equipped with extensive knowledge and insight not only about spiritualism, but also culture, both of the source and target language community.

Tesis ini berbentuk terjemahan beranotasi yang terdiri dari terjemahan dan pertanggungjawaban penerjemah atas pemilihan padanan dari unsur teks sumber yang menimbulkan masalah penerjemahan. Teks sumber penelitian ini adalah komik berjudul Psychiatric Tales. Peneliti ini menggunakan seluruh isi komik itu sebagai korpus penelitian. Metode penerjemahan yang digunakan adalah metode penerjemahan komunikatif dan semantis. Guna memecahkan masalah penerjemahan, peneliti ini menerapkan sejumlah prosedur penerjemahan. Data anotasi berkaitan dengan istilah keperawatan jiwa, metafora, idiom, dan onomatope. Penelitian ini memperlihatkan bahwa penerjemahan lebih sering menggunakan metode komunikatif meskipun teks sumbernya teks kreatif. Selain itu, penerjemahan telah mempertimbangkan elemen visual yang khas komik dan ragam bahasa takresmi. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerjemahan komik yang mengandungi penyuluhan keperawatan jiwa memerlukan penanganan khusus karena tuntutan teks kreatif sekaligus informatif This thesis is an annotated translation consisting of a translation and translators reasoning for choosing the equivalents of certain elements causing translation problems. The source text of this study is a comic entitled Psychiatric Tales. The researcher used the entire contents of the comics as a research corpus. Translation methods applied in this study are communicative and semantic methods. In order to solve translation problems, this researcher applied several translation procedures. The annotation datas are related to psychiatric nursing terms, metaphors, idioms, and onomatopoeias. This study shows that the translation often applied communicative method although the source text is a creative text. Moreover, the translation has considered visual element of comic and informal language register. In conclusion, the translation of comic that contains psychiatric nursing counseling requires particular attention due to its creative and informative text nature.

Temuan menunjukkan bahwa spiritualisme dan budaya bangsa Indian saling berkait sehingga data anotasi tidak hanya bersifat spiritual tetapi juga kultural. Maka, penerjemah harus memahami spiritualisme dan budaya masyarakat bahasa sumber dan sasaran.

Penelitian ini merupakan terjemahan beranotasi. Dalam penelitiannya, penulis ini menerjemahkan dua bab dari buku biografi Tokoh Tionghoa & Identitas Indonesia: dari Tjoe Bou San sampai Yap Thiam Hien dan menganotasi terjemahannya mengenai bagian yang penting dan dirasakan perlu. Tujuan penelitian umum adalah menghasilkan terjemahan yang berhasil dan berterima bagi pembaca bahasa sasaran. Tujuan penelitian khusus dapat dijabarkan: (1) menemukan metode yang tepat untuk menerjemahkan teks sumber ini; (2) menemukan teknik penerjemahan yang cocok dan memberikan alasan memilih padanan. Dalam menerjemahkan biografi itu, penulis ini menggunakan metode penerjemahan komunikatif (Newmark, 1988) dan menganggap teori kesepadaan dinamis dari Nida dan Taber (1982) sebagai prinsip utama. Anotasi menjelaskan berbagai unsur yang diklasifikasi dalam enam kelompok, yaitu kata bermuatan budaya, frasa yang diterjemahkan ke dalam bentuk idiom bahasa Tionghoa, nama diri, metafora, catatan kaki, dan kalimat. Menerjemahkan sebuah teks dengan baik bukan hanya memerlukan tingkat kemahiran bahasa yang tinggi tetapi juga pengetahuan yang luas.

Tesis ini menyuguhkan terjemahan beranotasi novel The Kaisho. Anotasi dilakukan untuk menjelaskan masalah penerjemahan istilah budaya dan penyelesaiannya. Keunikan novel dari segi budaya dan keinginan untuk memperkenalkan budaya latar TSu menjadi dasar penerjemahan yang menganut ideologi pengasingan, tanpa mengabaikan ideologi pelokalan. Ideologi pelokalan hanya digunakan pada bagian-bagian tertentu untuk mencapai pemahaman pembaca TSa. Metode penerjemahan yang digunakan adalah metode semantis-komunikatif dengan penggunaan berbagai teknik yang mendukung kesepadanan makna dan kewajaran bentuk. Penerjemahan yang melibatkan teks sumber (TSu) yang menghadirkan sejumlah budaya kuat memerlukan upaya dari penerjemah agar tidak terjadi ?penjajahan budaya?. Keterlibatan teks sumber yang menghadirkan sejumlah budaya kuat di dalam penerjemahan ini memerlukan upaya penerjemah untuk menghindari ?penjajahan budaya?. Dalam situasi ini, penerjemah perlu mencondongkan pada lima aspek, (1) pemahaman karakteristik TSu; (2) pemahaman tentang calon pembaca TSa; (3) pemahaman budaya-budaya di dalam TSu dan budaya sasaran; (4) pemahaman makna dalam penyampaian pesan; dan (5) pemahaman bahwa ada perbedaan cara pengungkapan suatu ide pada dua budaya yang berlainan.

This thesis presents an annotated translation of the novel The Kaisho. Annotation is performed to explain the problem and its solution translation of the cultural terms. The uniqueness of the novel in terms of culture and the desire to introduce the cultural background of the source text become a basic of translation that adheres to the ideology of foreignization, without ignoring the localization of ideology. The localization only used on certain parts to achieve the target text reader comprehension. Translation method used is semantic-communicative methods with the use of various techniques that support the equivalence of meaning and reasonableness shape. The involvement of the source text that presents a strong culture in this translation requires some effort of the translator to avoid the ?culturally imperialistic?.In this situstion, translator needs to be leaned on five aspects of understanding, (1) understanding of the characteristics of source text; (2) understanding of the potential reader of the target text; (3) understanding of the cultures in the source text and the target text; (4) understanding of the meaning in the delivery of the message; and (5) an understanding that there are different ways of expressing an idea in two different cultures.;This thesis presents an annotated translation of the novel The Kaisho.
