Dalam pengembangan aplikasi e-learning, salah satu hal yang perlu diperhatikan adalah materi ajar yang disediakan. Materi ajar diperlukan oleh pengajar untuk menyampaikan ilmu pengetahuan yang terdapat pada kuliah yang menjadi tanggung jawabnya. Bentukpenyampaian kuliah lewat aplikasi e-learning tentunya memerlukan materi ajar yang sesuai, artinya materi ajar tersebut mudah untuk dibuat, dimodifikasi, dimanfaatkan dan digunakan oleh siapapun pada suatu aplikasi e-learning. Untuk memenuhi hal tersebut maka pada proyek mahasiswa ini dibuat suatu sistem yang diberi nama SHECAR (Sharable E-learning Content Authoring Tool and Repository). SHECAR dibuat dengan tujuan membantu pengajar dalam menciptakan dan menyimpan suatu materi ajar (learning resource) yang dapat berfungsi dengan baik di berbagai aplikasi e-learning yaitu Learning Management System (LMS), Selain itu, materi tersebut juga mudah untuk digunakan atau dimodifikasi oleh pengguna lain sesuai dengan kebutuhannya. Untuk memenuhi tujuan tersebut, materi ajar yang dihasilkan oleh sistem ini mengacu pada suatu standar dalam pembuatan learning resource yang dikenal dengan sebutan SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model). SCORM adalah suatu standar yang digunakan secara luas di dunia untuk menciptakan materi ajar yang dapat mengakomodasi keperluan personalisasi pembelajaran. Personalisasi yang dimaksud adalah kemampuan suatu aplikasi e-learning untuk memberikan atau menyampaikan materi ajar kepada peserta didik sesuai dengan kemampuan dan kebutuhannya masing-masing. Untuk mendukung personalisasi, materi ajar yang dibuat pada sistem ini diberikan informasi dalam bentuk metadata. Pada akhir proyek ini, SHECAR telah mampu memenuhi kebutuhan dalam menciptakan materi ajar yang sesuai untuk aplikasi e-learning. Pencapaian tersebut berupa fasilitas untuk menambahkan metadata pada materi ajar, kemudian fungsi export dan import suatu materi ajar. Selain itu, sistem ini juga telah mendukung fungsi pencarian materi ajar yang telah dibuat pengajar.
