"Tugas akhir ini merupakan terjemahan beranotasi autobiografi Benazir Bhutto Daughter of Destiny. Buku ini menceritakan tentang perjalanan hidup Benazir Bhutto, mulai dari keluarga, pendidikan, karir politik, hingga peritiwa kematiannya yang ditulis dalam epilog oleh Mark A. Siegel. Autobiografi merupakan jenis teks yang mengandung dua unsur; informatif dan ekspresif. Mengandung unsur informatif karena teks autobiografi menyampaikan fakta kejadian hidup penulis. Mengandung unsur ekspresif karena dalam penyampaian fakta kisah hidup itu penulis memerhatikan unsur estetis. Dalam prosesnya, terjemahan ini tidak lepas dari berbagai masalah yang muncul dalam penerjemahan. Oleh karena itu, anotasi dilakukan sebagai bentuk pertanggungjawaban atas pilihan padanan yang diberikan dalam penerjemahan. Masalah-masalah anotasi diklasifikasikan menjadi istilah pendidikan, istilah budaya, nama diri, idiom, metafora, nama jabatan, kata sapaan, nama warna, dan istilah khusus. Untuk menyelesaikan masalah-masalah itu digunakan strategi dengan transferensi, naturalisasi, kuplet, penghilangan, padanan deskripsi, penerjemahan resmi, penerjemahan idiom dan metafora, serta catatan kaki. Penerjemahan teks autobiografi Benazir Bhutto Daughter of Destiny ini menggunakan dua metode yang saling melengkapi, yaitu metode semantis dan komunikatif.

This thesis is about an annotated translation of Benazir Bhutto Daughter of Destiny. The autobiography is about the life story of Benazir Bhutto, starting from her family, education background, political career, until her death. The story of her death is written by Mark A. Siegel in the epilog. Autobiography is a text containing two elements; informative and expressive. It is classified as informative text because it contains facts that she personally experienced in real. Meanwhile, it is also classified as expressive text because the writer also noticed the aesthetic element, emotion and feelings through the use of language styles. In the process of translation, translator usually finds various problems. Therefore, annotation is given as a responsibility for any chosen equivalence to solve those problems. Those problems are classified into educational terms, cultural terms, proper names, idioms, metaphors, titles, words greeting, colors, and special terms. Transference, naturalisation, couplet, omission, descriptive equivalent, recognised translation, idioms and metaphors, and footnotes are strategies used to solve those problems. The translation process of autobiography of Benazir Bhutto Daughter of Destiny uses two complementary methods, semantic and communicative."

An annotated translation is adding notes for the equivalence I choose while performing a translation. Translation methods applied are semantics and idiomatics. The problems that often emerge in the translation process of this story are related with cultural differences. The deployment of a range of translating procedures attempt to address those problems. In performing annotation, referrence to various dictionaries and websites, along with a small scale survey, were conducted. The annotation conduckd for this final assignment is limited to words, sentences, and phrases. In conclusion, translator's mastery of language, cultural, as well as field of the text are needed in order to produce a good translation."

Anotasi diberikan sebagai bentuk pertanggungjawaban penerjemah atas pemilihan padanan dari unsur tertentu yang menimbulkan masalah penerjemahan. Metode penerjemahan yang digunakan adalah metode penerjemahan semantis. Adapun masalah yang kerap kali muncul dalam penerjemahan sastra berkaitan dengan perbedaan budaya. An annotated translation consists of translation and annotations. The annotations are given as the translator's reasoning for choosing the equivalents of certain elements causing translation problems. The translation method applied is the semantic translation method. The problems that often emerge in literary translations are related to cultural differences. In order to solve the problems, I applied several translation procedures. Afterwards, I made annotations at the levels of words, phrases, and sentences, by referring to various websites and dictionaries, along with the results of discussion with an informant and a smallscale survey."

"Terjemahan beranotasi sebagai tugas akhir ini, bertujuan untuk memberikan pertanggungjawaban atas padanan yang dipilih dalam menerjemahkan secara mandiri buku How Come ke bahasa Indonesia. Teks sumber yang saya pilih adalah teks teknis, dan berjenis ilmiah populer. Dalam menerjemahkan saya menggunakan ideologi domestikasi dan metode komunikatif mengingat teks yang bersifat informatif. Unsur yang dipermasalahkan dalam penerjemahan dan dianotasi ada empat kelompok, yaitu istilah, nama jenis, idiom, dan tanda baca. Dengan demikian, sejumlah prosedur digunakan agar berbagai masalah yang ditemukan dalam penerjemahan dapat diatasi. Prosedur penerjemahan adalah transferensi, padanan budaya, penjelasan tambahan, calque, dan transposisi. Selain itu, untuk mencari padanan yang lazim dalam budaya BSa, digunakan berbagai rujukan baik dari narasumber, internet, penelusuran pustaka, dan berbagai kamus. Survei dan wawancara dengan narasumber digunakan untuk mengetahui kelaziman dalam budaya BSa selain pemaharnam teks sumber. Akhirnya dapat disimpulkan dari penelitian ini bahwa penerapan prosedur yang tepat dapat membantu penerjemah untuk mengatasi permasalahan penerjemahan akibat pertemuan dua budaya.

The objective of this final annotated translation assignment is to give justification of the equivalances chosen in translating the book How Come into Indonesian language independently. The source text chosen is a technical text and the type is popular science. The ideology used here is domestication and the method is communicative which is related to informative text. Some elements to be annotated is categorized into four groups: terms, common nouns, idioms, and punctuations. Therefore, some procedures are used in order to cope with the problems found in the translation. They are transference, cultural equivalance, contextual conditioning, calque, and transposition. Besides, to achieve a natural equivalance in the TL culture, some references, Internet, and dictionaries are used. Conducting surveys and interviews to gain the naturalness in TL culture and also comprehensibility of the SL. The conclusion of this research is, that the application of the appropriate method could overcome the translation problems which is caused by the two different cultures."

"Tesis ini berisi terjemahan novel The Seed and the Sower ke dalam Bahasa Indonesia serta anotasinya untuk memberi penjelasan padanan yang digunakan dalam menghadapi masalah-masalah penerjemahan terutama dalam unsur kebudayaan Afrika Selatan dan Jepang, serta kesalahan tata bahasa. Novel ini dipilih karena pekat dengan unsur budaya akibat banyak kebudayaan yang terlibat, serta terdapat banyak situasi komunikasi orangasing yang berbahasa Inggris salah akibat latar belakang novelnya. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menghasilkan terjemahan yang sesuai dengan skoposnya dan bertanggung jawab terhadap terjemahan itu dengan anotasi yang sesuai. Ada tiga masalah yang dijabarkan dalam penelitian ini: 1 masalah penerjemahan yang dihadapi saat menerjemahkan, 2 teknik penerjemahan yang digunakan, dan 3 ideologi penerjemahan yang dipilih dan pengaruhnya terhadap penerjemahan kata bermuatan budaya dalam TSu. Unit datanya adalah kata dan frasa yang bermuatan budaya. Datadiambil dari bab dua bagian keenam novel The Seed and the Sower. Dalam penelitian ini, ditemukan bahwa teknik penerjemahan yang paling banyak muncul adalah teknik amplifikasi. Kesalahan tata bahasa dalam TSu lebih baik diterjemahkan menjadi tata bahasa yang salah juga dalam Bahasa Indonesia. Dari temuan tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan teknik penerjemahan dalam menerjemahkan satu teks dapat berbeda-beda tergantung skoposnya. Ideologi pengasingan juga lebih unggul dalam terjemahan, tetapi pada dasarnya kedua ideologi dapat digunakan bersamaan apabila sesuai dengan tujuan penerjemahan.

This thesis is about the translation of The Seed and the Sower novel from English to Indonesia along with its annotation to give an explanation about the equivalent words used to face translation problems especially in the culture of South Africa and Japanese, and also the grammar mistake made deliberately in the source text. The novel is chosen because it has a lot of cultural elements because a variety of cultures are involved. It also has a lot of communication situations in which foreigners speak broken English grammar due to the storys background situation. The purpose of this research is to make a translation which is true to its skopos and to be responsible to the translation with the proper annotation. The researcher is dealing with three problems in this research: 1 translation problems faced while translating the source text, 2 translation techniques used for the translation, and 3 translation ideology chosen and its effect on translating cultural terms. The unit data are words and phrases which have culturalmeaning. The data are taken from the second chapter and sixth section of the novel. The finding shows that translation technique with most appearance is amplification technique. The broken grammar that appears in the source text is also better to be translated in broken Indonesian grammar. From the finding, it can be concluded that different translation technique can be used to translate a text, depending on the skopos. In addition, foreignisation is the superior ideology for translation, but the two translationideologies can basically used alternately if it suits the translations goal."

Keunikan novel dari segi budaya dan keinginan untuk memperkenalkan budaya latar TSu menjadi dasar penerjemahan yang menganut ideologi pengasingan, tanpa mengabaikan ideologi pelokalan. Ideologi pelokalan hanya digunakan pada bagian-bagian tertentu untuk mencapai pemahaman pembaca TSa. Metode penerjemahan yang digunakan adalah metode semantis-komunikatif dengan penggunaan berbagai teknik yang mendukung kesepadanan makna dan kewajaran bentuk. Penerjemahan yang melibatkan teks sumber (TSu) yang menghadirkan sejumlah budaya kuat memerlukan upaya dari penerjemah agar tidak terjadi ?penjajahan budaya?. Keterlibatan teks sumber yang menghadirkan sejumlah budaya kuat di dalam penerjemahan ini memerlukan upaya penerjemah untuk menghindari ?penjajahan budaya?. Dalam situasi ini, penerjemah perlu mencondongkan pada lima aspek, (1) pemahaman karakteristik TSu; (2) pemahaman tentang calon pembaca TSa; (3) pemahaman budaya-budaya di dalam TSu dan budaya sasaran; (4) pemahaman makna dalam penyampaian pesan; dan (5) pemahaman bahwa ada perbedaan cara pengungkapan suatu ide pada dua budaya yang berlainan.

Selanjutnya, anotasi dilakukan pada tataran kata, frasa, dan kalimat, berbekal pengetahuan dasar, penelusuran dokumen, pengacuan pada kamus, survei kecil, serta diskusi dengan narasumber.Sebagai kesimpulan, metode semantis dan komunikatif adalah solusi yang tepat bagi penerjemahan novel ini, yang diterapkan melalui berbagai pilihan teknik penerjemahan.

Annotated translation or translation with commentary is a kind of introspective and retrospective research done by translator by adding a note or comment on his own translation. This note is the reason why an equivalence being chosen. Novel is used in this annotated translation as the research data.Translation methods applied are those of semantic and communicative. Semantic method is applied to culture-specific words in order to keep culture of source language. Communicative method is applied to convey the message of source text and to keep aesthetic values by using natural equivalence in target text.Problems that frequently occur during the translation process of a novel are related to linguistic aspects and cultural differences between source and target text. The application of several translation techniques is the kinds of solution to solve those problems. Furthermore, annotations were conducted at the level of words, phrases, and sentences by referring to basic knowledge, dictionaries and websites, and by doing some discussions with competent informants.In conclusion, it is justified that semantic and communicative method are the most suitable solution to solve any problems in that novel, which are represented by some techniques."

The research aims to give annotation for the chosen equivalence in translating children novel. The semantic, communicative and idiomatic methods are applied. Those methods are chosen in order to render source text?s aesthetics as well as message, accepted in the target text.
