"ABSTRAK
Perencanaan jadwal penerbangan adalah hal penting dalam operasi maskapai yang biasanya harus dirancang secara efisien dan efektif. Meski begitu, rencana pelaksanaan yang dikenal sebagai kontrol operasi termasuk tindakan pemulihan untuk setiap penyimpangan yang berlaku, memiliki dampak yang cukup besar pada efisiensi maskapai. Pesawat dan kru adalah aset bernilai yang harus digunakan secara efisien untuk menghasilkan sebanyak mungkin penerbangan. Oleh karena itu, evaluasi terkait pemanfaatan pesawat dan kru sangat penting untuk mengevaluasi efisiensi operasional. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi secara kuantitatif efisiensi operasional dalam penjadwalan dan proses pemulihan maskapai dengan menggunakan model Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) yang berorientasi input, Constant Return to Scale (CRS). Parameter untuk perhitungan diperoleh dari studi sebelumnya. Nilai parameter yang dipilih diambil dari internal perusahaan Garuda Indonesia, yang diekstraksi dari beragam basis data dan dimodelkan ke dalam data bulanan dalam rentang 2017 hingga 2018. Dengan menggunakan metode DEA, kami mendemonstrasikan perhitungan untuk mendapatkan skor efisiensi untuk setiap bulan dan membandingkan satu dengan lainnya untuk mengetahui pada periode bulan mana yang efisien dan mana yang tidak efisien dengan kesenjangan yang terukur. Temuan kami adalah Garuda Indonesia mengalami tren penurunan efisiensi operasional dengan volatilitas tinggi dan sebagian besar dipengaruhi oleh efisiensi penjadwalan pesawat. Sementara penjadwalan kru dan efisiensi pada proses pemulihan menunjukkan tren naik dan volatilitas yang tinggi juga. Di akhir, hal tersebut dikonfirmasi oleh manajemen Garuda Indonesia bahwa metode DEA dengan model CRS berorientasi input cukup cocok untuk diterapkan di maskapai penerbangan untuk mengukur skor efisiensi penjadwalan dan proses pemulihan.

ABSTRACT
Airline schedule planning is a crucial issue in airline operation typically designed most efficiently and effectively. Even so, the plan execution as known as operation control including recovery actions to any prevailed irregularities, has a considerable impact on airline efficiency. Aircrafts and crews are valued asset that must be utilize in efficient way to generate as many as possible flights. Therefore, evaluation related to aircraft and crew utilization is crucial in order to evaluate operational efficiency. This study aims to quantitively evaluate the operational efficiency in the airline scheduling and recovery process by using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) input-oriented Constant Return to Scale (CRS) model. Parameters for calculation are obtained from prior studies. The values of selected parameters are taken from internal company of Garuda Indonesia, which are extracted from varies databases and modeled into monthly data set in range 2017 to 2018. By using DEA method, we demonstrate calculation to get efficiency score for every month and compare each other to know which months are efficient and which are inefficient with measured gap. Our finding is Garuda Indonesia experience a downward trend in operational efficiency with high volatility and it is influenced mostly by aircraft scheduling efficiency. While crew scheduling and tracking recovery process show upward trend and high volatility as well. Finally, we argue and have been confirmed by the management of Garuda Indonesia that DEA method with input-oriented CRS model is sufficiently suitable to be implemented in airlines to measure efficiency scores of scheduling and recovery process."

"Industri penerbangan telah berkembang pesat selama beberapa dekade terakhir, yang ditandai dengan meningkatnya jumlah penumpang perjalanan udara. Fenomena ini merupakan peluang bagi maskapai penerbangan untuk memperluas pasar mereka, tetapi di sisi lain hal ini dapat menjadi ancaman bagi maskapai. Hadirnya berbagai maskapai baru telah menciptakan iklim persaingan yang lebih ketat. Oleh karena itu, penentuan strategi bisnis yang paling sesuai dan dapat mendukung maskapai untuk bertahan dalam persaingan ketat ini menjadi sangan krusial. Maskapai dapat memilih antara strategi diferensiasi ataupun cost leadership. Opsi kedua terkait dengan bagaimana maskapai menjalankan bisnis mereka dengan cara yang paling efisien dan memperoleh profit, terlepas dari semua tantangan yang dihadapi. Untuk dapat meningkatkan efisiensi, perusahaan penerbangan dituntut untuk menjaga biaya operasional mereka pada level minimum, tanpa mengorbankan aspek-aspek keselamatan. Salah satu komponen biaya utama maskapai penerbangan selain dari biaya bahan bakar adalah biaya armada, yang memberikan kontribusi sekitar 15-20% dari total biaya dan merupakan komponen yang dapat dikendalikan oleh maskapai. Meminimalkan biaya armada harus dimulai dari proses perencanaan armada, termasuk bagaimana maskapai memperoleh armada mereka, baik melalui sewa operasi, sewa keuangan / modal, pembelian langsung ke pabrik pesawat atau bahkan kombinasi dari ketiga alternatif tersebut. Kesalahan dalam menentukan metode akuisisi armada yang tepat dan efisien akan menciptakan tekanan keuangan yang sangat besar untuk maskapai penerbangan dalam jangka waktu yang panjang. Untuk mengatasi tantangan tersebut, tesis ini bertujuan untuk menemukan alternatif akuisisi pesawat paling efisien yang menghasilkan pendapatan maksimum dan Revenue Passenger Kilometer (RPK). Data sekunder yang diperoleh dari berbagai data keuangan dan operasional maskapai akan digunakan dalam penelitian ini, serta data yang diperoleh dari data pasar penerbangan global. Analisis penelitian ini akan disajikan dengan menggunakan metode Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), untuk mendapatkan perbandingan tingkat efisiensi masing-masing maskapai dari perspektif akuisisi pesawat.

Airline industry had been tremendously growing during the past decades, which was marked by the increasing amount of air travel passengers. This phenomenon is an opportunity for airlines to enlarge their market, but on the other side it could be a threat for them as well. A lot of new airlines were established and entered the market, thus created a more intense competition amongst airlines. It is of high importance for airlines to determine which business strategy they should apply that enable them to survive in this tight competition. They might choose either a differentiation strategy or cost leadership. The latter option is related to how an airline run their business in the most efficient way and become profitable despite all the challenges faced. In order to be efficient, airlines shall manage their operating cost to be at minimum without sacrificing the safety aspect of their operation. One major cost component of airlines aside from the fuel cost is its fleet cost, which contributes around 15 - 20% of airlines’ total cost and is controllable by the airline. Minimizing the fleet cost should be started from the fleet planning, including how airlines acquire and compose their fleet, either through operating lease, financial / capital lease, direct purchase to aircraft manufacturer or even a mix of these three alternatives. Failure in determining the right fleet acquisition method will create immense financial pressure for airlines in a long-term period. In recognition of this challenge, this thesis is aiming to find the most efficient aircraft acquisition alternatives which resulting in the maximum revenue and Revenue Passenger Kilometer (RPK). Secondary data obtained from various airlines’ financial and operational data will be used in this research, as well as data from global aviation market. Analysis of this research will be presented using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method, to compare each referenced airlines’ efficiency from aircraft acquisition perspective."

Industri penerbangan tumbuh begitu cepat dalam dua dekade. Jumlah
penumpang meningkat drastis. Di lain pihak, airline menghadapi tantangan terkait
dengan capacity yang bisa disediakan dan faktor eksternal. Meningkatnya
permintaan perjalanan udara tidak selalu sejalan dengan meningkatnya
keuntungan karena industri penerbangan harus berkompetisi dengan rivalnya.
Deregulasi industri penerbangan telah mengubah pintu masuk dan pintu keluar
menjadi lebih fleksibel.
Studi lebih lanjut mengenai penentu profitabilitas industri penerbangan
diperlukan untuk mengetahui faktor yang menjadikan industri ini menguntungkan.
Dengan menggunakan regresi linear berganda, penelitian ini menguji sisi operasi,
keuangan, dan kompetisi terhadap profitabilitas maskapai penerbangan. Hasil dari
penelitian ini mengkonfirmasi penelitian sebelumnya bahwa operasional memberi
dampak terhadap profitabilitas maskapai. Beberapa faktor diuji. Jumlah pesawat
memberi dampak positif terhadap profitabilitas. Meski begitu, peningkatan ini
bisa dilakukan dengan bergabung aliansi sebagai bagian strategi untuk tumbuh.
Sedang tingkat isian pesawat tidak memberi pengaruh.
Konsentrasi trafik perjalanan udara sebagai ukuran kompetisi telah memberi
informasi bahwa hal ini berpengaruh terhadap profitabilitas maskapai.
Peningkatan konsentrasi dapat dilakukan melalui penambahan rute dan frekuensi
penerbangan. Selain itu, maskapai bisa menarik konsumen dengan membedakan
kualitas produk antar maskapai. Dikarenakan industri penerbangan tumbuh, maka
diperlukan dukungan modal agar industri penerbangan dapat menyediakan
kapasitas sesuai permintaan perjalanan udara. Tingkat utang memberi pengaruh
positif dalam meningkatkan profitabilitas maskapai dengan limitasi tertentu.

some challenges in conjunction with internal capacity creates and external shocks.
Increasing demand do not linearly increasing profitability since they have to
compete over the rivals. Deregulation airline industry has changing the entry and
exit to market lower.
The study about determinants of airlines profitability is required to ensure
the airlines in profitabile operations. By multiple linear regression, research is
examining operational, financial, and competition issue to find these effect into
profitability. The research results confirmed previous study that operational
performance has affect to airlines profitability. Several factors in operational has
tested. Fleet size as variables operational has consistently impact to profitability.
However, alliances as the other ways increasing size could be considering as part
of strategic to growth while load factor has no affect in predicting profit.
The industry concentration as competition measurement has provide insight
to the research that competition has affect to profitability. Increasing
concentration could achieved by increase fligth frequencies particularly into
routes that profitable. In addition, airlines shall attract passengers more by
offering product market quality that can distinguished by consumers. Since the

"Mempelajari perkembangan kinerja Garuda Indonesia Tbk tidak bisa terlepas dari peranan perubahan logo (Logo Makeover) yang telah dilakukannya. Untuk memahami dan menafsirkan pesan yang terkandung dalam logo, perlu dipelajari melalui ilmu semiotika. Logo Garuda Indonesia Airline memiliki perubahan signifikan dalam bentuk, warna dan tipografi logo nya. Perubahan ini dapat dianalisis dengan menggunakan pendekatan semiotik Peirce. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah logo makeover memiliki kontribusi positif sebesar 19,6% dari sikap konsumen terhadap merek dan 16,5% dari komitmen konsumen terhadap merek. Lainnya ditentukan oleh faktor-faktor yang tidak termasuk dalam ruang lingkup penelitian ini seperti kualitas pelayanan, strategi pemasaran dan lain-lain.

It is interested to study the florescence of the performance of Garuda Indonesia Tbk especially associated with the role of its Logo makeover. To understand and interpret the message of the logo, we need to study semiotics. Garuda Indonesia Airline has significant changes in the shape, color and typography of its Logo. These changes can be analyzed using the Peirce semiotic approach. The result of the research is that logo makeover has a positive influence as much as 19.6% of the customer brand attitude, and 16.5% of the customer brand commitment, the rest is determined by other factors that are not included in the scope of this research such as service quality, marketing strategy, etc.

"Cargo plays a very important role in the aviation industry as a supporting revenue. In Airline X, cargo supports the revenue by 4% - 6% of the total revenue. There are opportunities to optimize the cargo compartment in Airline X by analyzing every agent involved in the purpose to know the optimum cargo loaded into the compartment using Agent-Based Modelling. The method used in this research is Rejection Sampling in Monte Carlo and Agent-Based Modelling. In addition, the theory used in this research is distribution function, to determine what type of distribution that represents the agent behavior. The final result shows that with the predetermined number of iterations, which is 300 iterations, the optimal value was obtained base on the convergent result. On the other hand, the distribution of passenger and baggage described as the Gaussian Distribution Function, while the distribution of EBT described as the Negative Exponential Distribution Function. These distributions represent agent behavior."
