"There were 37.3 million people or 17.42% people out of the total population in Indonesia who lived under the poverty line in year 2003 which constitute 20.23% of people in rural and 13.57% of the people in urban area (BPS, 2003). Poverty has a negative impact to the health and nutrient status of the population who lived under the poverty line. Poor people are more exposed to environmental risk (poor sanitation, unhealthy food, violence and natural disaster) and have less access to quality health care (WHO, 2000). Various approaches have been conducted to determine the poverty line. Badan Pusat Statistics/Central Bureau for Statistics (BPS/CBS) is one of the institutions that have developed the poverty line, which has been used nationally in Indonesia. The poverty line was defined as the expenditure value of the minimum food, so called food poverty line, and non-food commodities per capita per month (BPS, 1998). The food poverty line was derived by calculating the rupiah value of minimum standard for food adequately required by an individual, which was set at 2,100 calories per person per day. The rupiah value of 2,100 calories was derived from 52 selected food commodities mostly consumed by the reference population from the Susenas/National Health Survey data. Reference population is a group of people living just above the poverty line, and hence, their pattern of consumption can be used as a standard of minimum consumption. The selected food commodities were taking into account the difference among provinces but it did not distinguished between rural and urban areas. Therefore, the difference in values of expenditure spent for purchasing these food commodities refers to the differences in volume and price of each selected food item in both areas. However, some aspects were not considered in the calculation of this food poverty line. First, the estimation of the calorie content from the selected food commodities was not based on the quantities of food actually consumed by household member. It was only concerned on the amount of food used by the household. However, food used is not equivalent to the food consumed. Therefore, the calories content derived from the food used would overestimate the calories intake derived from the food actually consumed by the household member (Hasan, 1997). Secondly, the food poverty line developed by BPS was not measured independently. It was based on the consumption of the reference population. The consumption of the reference population was not necessarily adequate in terms of quantity and quality of the food because the reference population was determined by their non-food expenditure. It did not guarantee that people with higher non-food expenditure would consume adequate food. Third, nutrient or food consumption pattern of the population was correlated by the range of foods, which was locally produced or imported, available in an area and in a given season (Gopalan, 1984 in Hatma 2001)."

"Studi cross sectional ini bertujuan untuk melakukan evaluasi kjnerja program komunikasi tabur gizi di Praya Tengah, Kabupaten Lombok Tengah. Hasil studi menunjukkan bahwa program komunikasi tabur gizi sebagai suatu sistem tidak berjalan dengan baik. Hal ini berdampak pada rendahnya tingkat kepatuhan sasaran, yaitu ibu/pengasuh dan anaknya, terhadap penggunaan tabur gizi. Selain itu, kepatuhan ibu untuk menggunakan tabur gizi lebih dipengaruhi oleh kesukaan anak terhadap produk tersebut, daripada program komunikasi itu sendiri. Manajer kesehatan di level kabupaten, dan Puskesmas, Serta kder Posyandu beranggapan bahwa masalah ketidakpatuhan sasaran disebabkan oleh anak balita tidak menyukai makanan yang telah diberi tabur gizi, dan para ibu/pengasuh tidak mau memaksa anaknya untuk mengkonsumsi rnakanan tersebut, serta anggapan ibu bahwa produk tersebut menyebabkan diare dan demam. Alasan lainnya adalah lemahnya aspek manajemen.

This cross sectional study aimed to conduct a performance evaluation on the micronutrients powder (MNP) communication program in Praya Tengah, Lombok Tengah District. The study found that as a system MNP communication program did not well function and it might not reach its potential benefit yet, As a result it leads to low compliance of the beneficiaries on the MNP. Also, the caregiver?s compliance was influence by their children?s compliance, instead of comMunication program. The health managers and Posyandu cadres have perceived several reasons as problem on that program, i.e. most of the under five children did not like MNP, and the caregivers refuse to force feed their child to eat the food when it mix with MNP and also they perceive it might cause of diarrhea and fever. Other reasons that might hamper the program were lack of resources and poor management."

"Penggunaan kader merupakan salah satu strategi untuk mengatasi kekurangan jumlah tenaga kesehatan di negara berkembang. Studi ini bertujuan untuk menggali faktor yang berhubungan dengan capacity building kader dalam memberikan edukasi. Masalah yang berhubungan dengan praktek kader dalam memberikan edukasi antara lain kurangnya pengetahuan dan keterampilan komunikasi, perbedaan persepsi mengenai peran edukasi, dan kurangnya kepercayaan diri. Karakteristik kader, kebutuhan personal, manajemen organisasi, supervisi, dan persepsi pengasuh terhadap kader merupakan faktor utama yang berhubungan dengan praktek pemberian edukasi oleh kader. Faktor-faktor tersebut perlu diperhatikan dalam proses capacity building kader, dengan pengayaan konten mengenai manajemen diet pada anak diare dan komunikasi sebaya, dan dengan menerapkan metode belajar dari pengalaman.

Cadres have been identified as one of the key strategies to address health workers shortage in developing countries. This study aimed to explore factors related to cadres capacity building on giving education. It was revealed that cadres had lack of knowledge and communication skills, different perceived role toward education practice, and low self-efficacy. Cadre's characteristics, personal needs, organizational management, supervision, and caregivers' perception toward cadres were the main factors related to cadres practice on giving education. Those factors should be addressed during capacity building process through enrichment of capacity building contents on knowledge about dietary management of child illness during diarrhea and peer communication, and by applying experiencebased learning as capacity building methods.

"Reducing food intake declines the opportunity of infant and young child to obtain
sufficient, both quantity and quality food during and after diarrhea. This study will
provides clearer information to caregiver’s practice on dietary management of
child during diarrhea.The respondents of this study were children with the
diarrhea disease (n= 7) and during recovery period (n = 7). The study was
conducted using observation, in-depth interview, and dietary assessment. Result
of this study suggested that caregivers need to increase their awareness of infant’s
appetite, actively maintain their child’s hydration and give sufficient feeding
during diarrhea.

Perilaku pengasuh dalam mengurangi asupan makanan anak tidak hanya
menurunkan kecukupan konsumsi asupan anak, tetapi juga kualitas makanannya
selama dan setelah diare. Penelitian ini memberikan informasi lebih jelas tentang
cara pengasuh memberikan makanan pada anak saat diare. Responden penelitian
ini adalah anak yang menderita diare (n= 7), atau sudah memasuki tahap
penyembuhan (n= 7). Penelitian ini menggunakan tiga metode yaitu observasi,
wawancara mendalam tentang asupan dan pola makan. Hasil penelitian ini
menunjukkan bahwa pengasuh perlu meningkatan kesadaran akan adanya
perubahan nafsu makan anak dan aktif menjaga kecukupan cairan dan nutrisi saat
diare.
