ABSTRACT
Art is always followed by various ideas and needs that cannot be separated from culture and time. The development of art concepts and theories makes different methods in which art is presented. At present, art representations involve spatial contexts. This paper discusses the paintings from the exhibition of Colonialism and Orientalism. Not only is Art considered, but context becomes more important because it brings true stories about art. Parergon talks about the relationship between art and context. Extrinsic art is a context that can confirm the definition of art, the meaning of art, or the content of art. Context contains information about art, so gallery visitors can understand, appreciate, and enjoy about art. This paper discusses art, art history, and Parergon."

The Rasina novel by Iksaka Banu describes the phenomenon of indigenous life under Dutch colonial rule. This study aims to analyze forms of Dutch colonial slavery practices against natives in Batavia at the time of the VOC's bankruptcy in 1755. The method used is descriptive qualitative with post-colonialism studies. This study uses the orientalism theory of Edward Said. Data collection was carried out using literature study techniques. The results of the analysis revealed that there were three forms of Dutch colonial slavery practices against natives. First, the slave trade which denotes the deprivation of a person's human rights through human trafficking. Second, the torture of slaves which showed an act of exceeding the limits of humanity that took advantage of the powerlessness of the indigenous people in the eyes of the Dutch colonialists. Third, the smuggling of slaves which showed the corruption of the Dutch people which only gave benefits to Company officials. These three things prove that the practice of Dutch colonial slavery against natives was an act of disgrace, violation of human rights, struggle for freedom of life, and injustice in legal treatment which as a whole was contrary to humanity and individual sovereignty."

"Although frequently dismissed as mere entertainment, popular music can be utilized as a site for constructing and representing identities. This is exemplified by Indonesian R&B/hip-hop singer Agnez Mo who aspires to, among others, represent Indonesia through her English works. This study explores the Indonesian identity Mo portrays in the lyrics and images of her music video Long As I Get Paid (2017). Carlsson’s (1999) theory on music video textual analysis is utilized in this study. Results are then understood in relation to Orientalism and self-Orientalism. This study finds that Mo constructs the identity of a feminine, strange, exotic, and sexually assertive Eastern woman who willingly sells herself to a Western man for money. Moreover, she is depicted ignoring the criticisms she receives for it. Such portrayal is a reiteration of classic Orientalist stereotypes. Furthermore, Mo being the one to Orientalize herself ultimately makes her actions fall under self-Orientalism. This study’s findings indicate that the concept of self-Orientalism is relevant not only to the realms of advertising and tourism– which are what a large number of previous studies on self-Orientalism focus on – but also popular culture."

This paper will discuss about East-West Polarization in the novel Pulang by Leila S. Chudori. Pulang focuses on political refugees with Dimas Suryo as the main character. They stuck in France and threatened that they can't go back to Indonesia because they are considered to be afliated with Indonesian Communist Party. In Pulang, . East-West polarization seems obvious. The novel indicates West the positive side and East as the negative side. The perspective is legacy of colonial era that creates a binnary opposition of East and West. To Review about East-West, this paper will use post-colonialims theory pr better known as Orientalism.
